About

Inspired by the powerful visual language of Tyeb Mehta, this Saturday Family Workshop explores how a diagonal line can transform a composition. Mehta’s iconic use of the diagonal creates division, movement, and tension within the canvas, turning a simple line into a dynamic visual force.

In this workshop, participants will work in pairs to create a shared artwork divided by a diagonal line. Each individual will respond to one section of the composition using mixed media, interpreting personal moods, emotions, or ideas. As the two parts come together, the artwork will reflect both contrast and connection, showing how separate visual responses can coexist within a single frame.

Through this process, families will explore how composition, direction, and division influence meaning in an artwork. The activity encourages participants to think about how a line can act as both a boundary and a bridge, shaping relationships between forms, colours, and emotions.

While you’re here, we invite you to also explore KNMA’s ongoing exhibition TYEB MEHTA Bearing Weight (with the lightness of being)
