About the Event

As part of the Spirit of Africa Festival, Akshara Theatre in association with The P(ART)icle Collective presents DJEMBE RHYTHMS with Yashdeep Khare and the Sunshine Ensemble.

The djembe is the most popular African drum instrument. It is goblet-shaped and played with bare hands. The djembe originated in Mali and is played throughout Western Africa. It is a symbol of peace and communal harmony. A djembe ensemble creates rhythm for people to dance, sing, clap, or work to, creating an intense bond between performer and listener. Yashdeep Khare and the Sunshine Ensemble present an intense, electrifying, rhythmic performance of Djembe rhythm, which will have audiences stamping their feet and clapping their hands in accompaniment.
