A workshop on Satirical Self Portraits

30 September, 2:00 – 6:00 pm 

KNMA Saket


This workshop focuses on creating a self-portrait drawing in satirical way using signs, symbols and story as a metaphor to reflect personal/socio-political observations of their surroundings. This workshop is open to all participants (18 years and above). Art materials and refreshments will be provided by the museum. The medium of instruction for the workshop will be in Hindi. 

 

"दो नाक वाले लोग" हरिशंकर परसाई की व्यंग्यात्मक कहानी है जो मुझे काफी प्रभावित करता रहा है, या फिर यूं कह ले कि इस तरह की रचनाएं जोव्यंग में (हंसी मजाक) अपनी बातें कह जाए। इस कहानी में भी एक सामाजिक अनुभव को परसाई ने एक व्यंग्यात्मक रूप से रखा है।

यह workshop इस कहानी को केंद्र में रखते हुए प्रत्यक्ष और अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से रेखाचित्र के द्वारा आत्म चित्रण कर एक सामाजिक, राजनीतिक, काल्पनिक सोच समझ को व्यंग्यात्मक रूप से रखने की कोशिश रहेगी।

उदाहरण स्वरूप मेरे कुछ काम खास तौर से pumpkin sculpture जिसे मैं self-portrait की तरह देखती हूं जो  एक तरह से शारीरिक उपवास(body shaming) के ऊपर है, और इसी चीज को लेखक फणीश्वर नाथ रेणु अपनी उपन्यास  "मैला आंचल" में एक सामाजिक दृष्टिकोण देते हुएलिखते हैं कि "देश क्या कोई कद्दू कोहरा है जो कटकर अलग होगा" यहां वे एक देश विभाजन के ऊपर व्यंग कर रहे हैं।

इसी तरह से कई उदाहरण को रखते हुए व्यक्तिगत या सामाजिक गिरोहों को व्यंग्यात्मक रूप से समझने की कोशिश करेंगे।


Muskaan Singh is an artist based in Delhi. She completed her postgraduate studies at Shiv Nadar University, Greater Noida, India, in 2018. Her work is profoundly rooted in literature, and she adeptly employs humour and vernacular idioms to dissect intricate political situations within the visual realm. She ingeniously weaves references from her village and culture, aiming to articulate the myriad social, cultural, and political confrontations inherent in contemporary urban life, all the while endeavouring to trace their underlying value. 

Her key participation are 2020, Idea Travel Faster Than Light, Garden project, London, 2020- Untitled VI, Priyasari Art Gallery, Mumbai, India, 2020- VAICA The festival of Video Art by Indian Contemporary Artists, Godrej India Culture lab, Mumbai, Sala rekalde gallery, bilbo, Spain and gallery Oed, Kochi, India, 2020- Utsa foundation residency, Bhuwneshwer, Odisha, 2018- 1shanthiroad, Bangalore, 2019- GIPA workshop in Gurgawn by Arun Hg, Title- Returning to the Earth, Group Exhibition, at Italian Cultural Centre (New Delhi) 2018, 2018- MFA solo Show at KNMA.
