About

Federico Garcia Lorca, best known for his poems and his plays, had first studied music with passion and composed most beloved songs. He became a prominent member of "Generación del 27" (Generation of 1927), including poets, musicians, and artists at the forefront of Spain’s modernist cultural movement.

One of his closest friends was the composer Manuel de Falla, and the two collaborated on songs and theatrical pieces, including "El Amor Brujo."

Young opera singers from the Neemrana Music Foundation will interpret four popular songs by Lorca himself, four songs by his friend Manuel de Falla, and a few songs by other composers of the same circle as Lorca, including famous hits from zarzuelas by Sorozabal, Gimenez, and Serrano.

The pianist Philippe Engel will accompany the concert and offer a rendition of the famous piece "Asturias" by Albeniz, to whom he dedicated the poem "Ode to Isaac Albéniz", a few months before his tragic death in the early days of the Spanish Civil War.
