Baisakhi: A Heritage Evening by Culture Plus, Aadyam Handwoven & Ikk Punjab

Presented by Culture Plus in collaboration with Aadyam Handwoven and Ikk Punjab, this curated evening celebrates Baisakhi through the lens of Punjab’s shared cultural and musical heritage.

Hosted within the immersive space of Ikk Punjab—known for its nostalgic evocation of undivided Punjab—this intimate 80-guest gathering brings together poetry, music and cuisine to recreate the spirit of the harvest festival.

The Experience

The evening opens with a poetry set by Gurpreet Saini (Mohtaaj), a contemporary Punjabi voice whose work is rooted in themes of love, longing, identity and Punjabiyat—blending personal narrative with cultural memory. He is joined by Tanmay Maheshwari a guitarist, whose musical sensibilities and spoken-word expression add texture and depth to the performance, creating a layered, immersive opening.

This transitions into a curated Loksangeet presentation led by Simi, a vocalist known for her soulful interpretations of Punjabi folk traditions. The 45-minute set revisits the musical landscape of East and West Punjab through kavita, shayari, dohe and chand.

Drawing from the works of Surinder Kaur, Kuldeep Manak, Shiv Kumar Batalvi and Amrita Pritam, the performance honours both the musical and literary depth of Punjab’s cultural legacy.

Complementing the experience is a Baisakhi-inspired menu—rooted in wheat-based traditions, seasonal harvest ingredients and regional culinary practices—where food completes the narrative of land, labour and community.

Alongside, Aadyam Handwoven brings a parallel celebration of craft—spotlighting India’s handloom traditions and the artisans behind them. Through its focus on textile revival, Aadyam adds a tactile dimension to the evening, connecting threads of heritage, identity and craftsmanship with the cultural spirit of Baisakhi.

At its core, the evening reflects a simple belief—that culture lives on when it is collectively experienced, cherished and shared.
