Interplay is a short experimental documentary that explores the layered process of artistic collaboration between sound, movement, and image. Shot over three days during the Covid-19 lockdown in Mumbai (June 2021), the film documents an evolving exchange between musician Rishi Bradoo and contemporary dancer Ammith Kumar, as they revisit and respond to Losing—a track Rishi composed years earlier but left unfinished.

What begins as an attempt to reinterpret the song through choreography slowly transforms into a deeper exploration of artistic practice. Rishi breaks down the track’s elements—melody, lyrics, and emotion—revealing the blocks and breakthroughs behind its creation. Ammith engages through improvisational movement, allowing the textures of sound to guide his response. Directing the process is filmmaker Anusha Datta, whose observational lens captures moments of vulnerability, play, and tension as the collaboration unfolds.

Blending cinéma vérité with poetic imagery, Interplay becomes a meditation on the nature of ideas: how they emerge, evolve, and are reshaped through process. In a moment of global isolation, the film offers an intimate look at the act of creating together—across mediums, forms, and states of mind.
