KNMA’s Art Hours is creating new ways for Delhi and Gurgaon to come together through art.

Make this summer all about creativity and trying something new. We are bringing a series of family & artist-led workshops to UTSAV The Square, GMR Aerocity, creating new ways to engage with art across the Delhi–Gurgaon region.

This is the one of many creative experiences we will be bringing in the months ahead.

In Collaboration with India Experiences

1. Sculpting Play | 5 Sep 26 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM | Ages 5+

Inspired by the playful visual language and craft-based philosophy of K.G. Subramanyan, this workshop invites participants to create imaginative clay toys that blur the boundaries between sculpture, craft, and play. Facilitated by Museum Educators, participants will explore hand-building techniques such as pinching, coiling, rolling, joining, and shaping while transforming simple forms into expressive animals, birds, human figures, or hybrid creatures.

Through hands-on experimentation, participants will engage with form, volume, texture, and surface while developing an understanding of how clay can be shaped and assembled into sculptural forms. The workshop encourages participants to discover how traditional craft practices and playful imagination can come together in contemporary art-making.

2. Characters That Tell a Story | 5 Sept 26 | 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Ages 16+

Led by artist Srinia Chowdhury, this workshop invites participants to explore character-making through expressive clay faces. Moving beyond traditional portraiture, participants will create imagined characters inspired by emotions, memories, observations, and personal experiences, exploring how form, texture, and exaggerated features can communicate mood, personality, and narrative.

Through guided activities, participants will learn basic slab-building and assemblage techniques using white stoneware clay. Experimenting with cutting, shaping, layering, scoring, and joining, participants will create expressive reliefs while discovering how visual details and material choices can be used to build character and tell stories through clay.

3. Who Is The Pot?| 6 Sept 26 | 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM | Ages 16+

Led by researcher, potter, and storyteller Sangeeta Jawla, this immersive workshop brings together pottery, storytelling, and tradition through an interactive exploration of Indian pottery cultures. Drawing from folktales passed down through generations of potters, participants will engage with stories, songs, and reflections that reveal the connections between craft, identity, community, and material culture.

Alongside storytelling, participants will be introduced to traditional pottery-making techniques and have the opportunity to work directly with clay and the pottery wheel. Through individual and collaborative making exercises, the workshop encourages participants to explore how stories can be shaped through both words and hands, while reflecting on ideas of identity, creativity, transformation, and the role of craft in everyday life.
