About the Kotilingeshwara Temple Trip
The Kotilingeshwara Temple is renowned for housing the tallest and largest Shiva Linga in Asia, standing at 33 meters. The temple is home to 1 crore (10 million) Shiva Lingas, hence the name Kotilingeshwara, with ‘Koti’ meaning ‘crore’ in Kannada.
Interestingly, Kotilingala in Karimnagar was also the first capital of the Satavahana Kingdom (230 BCE–220 CE). Inscriptions from the Kakatiya dynasty (1083–1323 CE), by kings Prola II and Prataparudra, found in Karimnagar and Srisailam, further reflect the region’s rich historical significance.
