From India’s hinterlands to global stages, their sound travels far and wide.
Maati Baani, literally ‘the language of the earth’, fuses India’s rare folk traditions and Hindustani classical music with funk and blues. Founded by Hindustani vocalist Nirali Kartik and composer Kartik Shah, the band has collaborated with over 200 musicians from 30 countries. They champion folk musicians from India’s remote villages, featuring them in live sets that weave together Hindi, Gujarati, Sindhi, and Rajasthani voices. Traditional yet transcendent, Maati Baani makes India’s musical heritage accessible, aspirational, and alive.
This performance is part of the Tarasha Craft Exhibition 2026, a vibrant showcase celebrating India’s artisan traditions and the craftpreneurs transforming them into sustainable livelihoods. The exhibition features diverse crafts, interactive workshops, and live demonstrations highlighting the innovation, resilience, and creativity of artisans across India: masters building bridges between heritage and contemporary life.
