This conversation brings together Prof. Debraj Mookerjee and Adil Hussain, moderated by Dwishojoyee Banerjee, around their distinct yet deeply connected journeys through literature, theatre, performance, pedagogy, and lived experience, as well as their shared roots in Goalpara, Assam.
Extending Material Practices into questions of language, performance, memory, and pedagogy, the discussion explores literature and performance not as separate disciplines, but as practices shaped by the body, voice, text, classroom, stage, place, and labour.
At its core, the conversation asks what it means to learn, practise, transmit, and move between different forms of knowledge. It invites audiences to look beyond what is created and consider how knowledge is embodied, rehearsed, shared, and transformed.
As part of KNMA's ongoing public programmes, this conversation continues the museum's commitment to creating spaces for dialogue, learning, and interdisciplinary exchange within a leading museum in Delhi.
About the Moderator:
Dwishojoyee Banerjee is an Economics student at the University of Delhi and founder of The Soft Movement, a youth-led initiative working across climate action, sustainability, and social change. Her interests lie at the intersection of material culture, ecology, art, labour, and the ways everyday practices produce social and cultural knowledge.
About the Speakers:
Prof. Debraj Mookerjee is an Associate Professor of English at Ramjas College, University of Delhi, where he has taught for over three decades. His work spans literary theory, cultural studies, language, communication, and pedagogy, with a particular interest in how knowledge is produced, interpreted, and shared.
Adil Hussain is an internationally acclaimed actor and theatre practitioner from Goalpara, Assam. Trained at the National School of Drama and Drama Studio London, his practice spans mobile theatre, stage, cinema, and performance, with a focus on embodiment, voice, movement, presence, and place.
