Saturday Family Workshop

Book Making and Dissemination through Zines II

As part of our Ongoing series Book Making and Dissemination through Zines, this workshop ‘Origami Dairies’ invites families to reflect on how folds can hold both memory and imagination. Like the pages of a diary, some thoughts are shared openly, while others remain quietly tucked away.

Inspired by KNMA’s ongoing exhibition jo ġāyab hai, aur hāzir bhi - book sculptures of Saba Hasan, this session echoes her practice of transforming books into layered artifacts that blur the line between what is preserved and what is erased. Just as Hasan’s folded, stitched, and altered books ask us to reconsider what remains visible and what disappears, this workshop explores folds as metaphors for concealment and revelation.

Each creation becomes a fragile yet intimate object, part artwork, part diary where presence and absence coexist, and stories take shape in both silence and expression.

Audience Takeaways:

- Reflect on folds as metaphors for privacy, memory, and ambiguity

- Engage with the language of concealment and revelation in bookmaking

- Connect with Saba Hasan’s artistic re-imagining of books as layered, sculptural forms

- Carry home a tactile zine-object that is as much diary as artwork
