About

Pritam Maity was born in 2002 in Kolkata, West Bengal. His musical path began at an early age with piano and Indian classical vocal training. Between the ages of 12 and 16, he actively arranged and edited piano pieces from older songs, developing a strong understanding of harmony, structure, and musical expression. He later earned a diploma in Indian classical vocal music, an influence that continues to shape his phrasing, tone, and interpretative depth.

At 15, Pritam began learning the guitar. After a brief six-month introduction with a local teacher, he continued without formal instruction until the age of 21. Drawing from his background in piano, voice, and music theory, he taught himself the instrument, using these years to explore tone, technique, and personal expression. This period of self-guided study played a crucial role in helping him develop a distinct musical voice.

In 2022, he met his former guitar mentor, Srijit Mukherjee, a German-trained classical guitarist, at the Art Guitar Festival, Kokata. That same year marked his concert debut, where he premiered his first composition for classical guitar, it was also his first public performance as a classical guitarist.

Since then, Pritam’s artistic journey has gained strong momentum. In 2023, he was awarded 2nd Prize (shared with 1st place) at the National Classical Guitar Competition in Delhi, earning a full scholarship to attend a classical guitar festival in Germany. There, he presented his original compositions before internationally acclaimed artists such as Thomas Müller-Pering, Roger Tristao Adao, and the KM Duo, receiving masterclasses and valuable artistic guidance.

He has performed at leading venues including the Calcutta School of Music, Delhi School of Music, and the Little Theatre Group Auditorium, and has also appeared internationally in Germany. He has been named Outstanding Performer three times in the CGRF Student Recital Series and was invited to perform at the CGRF Classical Guitar Festival in Kolkata.

Pritam was also invited by the Bangalore School of Music, one of India’s oldest and most respected institutions, to present a full-length concert as the Artist of the Evening. More recently, he was invited by the BSGF Guitar Foundation to perform and teach at the New India Guitar Festival in New Delhi, further expanding his presence in the international guitar community.

In addition to his solo work, he has recently presented a premiere concert in Kolkata featuring his original arrangements for guitar and cajón, following an earlier full-length solo recital. Today, his work reflects a commitment to originality, cross-cultural dialogue, and expressive depth, contributing a distinctive voice to the growing classical guitar landscape in India.
