Qutub Minar

About

Soaring tall at 73m, the Qutub Minar is the world's tallest brick minaret - almost like an ancient skyscraper! It has 5 distinct storeys, each with its own balcony. There are beautiful Quranic verses inscribed along with the bands of the pillar. The Iron Pillar in Qutub Complex is a must-see - it has been rust-free for the past 2000 years!

The foundation stone of the Qutub Minar was laid in 1200 AD by Qutab-ud-din Aibak to mark the beginnings of the Mughal rule. An inscription on the monument calls it the victory tower for this reason, presumably because it was built after the Mughals won against the last Rajput ruler of the region.
