About the Event
Saturday Family Workshop
Every family has its own secret recipes and special kitchen stories — the smell of a grandmother’s pickles, a parent’s festival dish, or a meal that brings everyone together. This Saturday's Family Workshop invites participants of all ages to celebrate these cherished traditions by designing their very own family cookbook.
Guided through the process of bookmaking, participants will explore layout, illustration, and cover design while documenting favourite recipes and memories. Each page becomes a blend of food and storytelling — a place to record not just ingredients, but the laughter, love, and history behind every meal.
Inspired by the KNMA’s ongoing exhibition Please Touch Gently: Zines, Comics, Ephemera, which highlights self-publication made publications as vessels of personal narratives and shared histories, this session encourages families to see their cookbook as a living zine — a handmade record of heritage, emotion, and creativity.
Families are encouraged to bring a few handwritten recipes or recall them together during the session. The resulting book can continue to grow over time, becoming a living document that preserves both culinary and cultural heritage for generations to come.
Takeaways:
* Learn simple techniques of book layout, binding, and cover design.
* Create a personal family cookbook combining art, text, and memory.
* Explore how food can become a medium for storytelling and togetherness.
* Celebrate your family’s culinary traditions through creativity and design.
While you’re here, we invite you to also explore KNMA’s ongoing exhibitions — please touch gently: zines, comics, ephemera, jo ġāyab hai, aur hāzir bhi – book sculptures of Saba Hasan, Extraordinary Line, and Moomin 80 – The Door is Always Open, the first-ever Moomin presentation in India.
