a realistic play written by Marathi Playwright Jaywant Dalvi. The play unfolds the story of the loneliness of an aged couple living alone despite the fact that they have two sons whom they raised from childhood.

Nana retired as a first-class auditor in the railway, and his wife, Nani, with two sons, Deenu and Nandu. Deenu is an engineer and settled in America, rarely visits his parents .......Nana himself sends Deenu to America for the betterment of the future, so that after spending a few years over there, he comes back and stays with them.

On the other hand, Nandu, by his own will, decides to join the Air Force. Years go by, the couple is leading their life completely alone..........., no one to talk except each other....... finding happiness in doing small-small things.......always looking for someone to talk to, waiting for a letter or footsteps at the door. A very moving part of the play is Nana’s relationship with a little girl named Madhuri, who dials his number by mistake. He pretends to be her grandfather just to hear a child’s voice; this shows they are starving for affection.

8 years have passed......Deenu gets married without letting them know and prefers to stay there, but sends money regularly. All of a sudden, war broke out with Pakistan, and the couple come to know about the death of Nandu. This incident has broken the couple from inside. Now, their only hope to live is Deenu, but when they come to know of him going back to America, the couple loses their will to live and decides to commit Suicide.......

Sandhya Chaya is not just a play about old age; it is a mirror to modern society. It asks a haunting question: In our race for success and global reach, who are we leaving behind in the shadows of our old homes?
