This screening brings together four evocative short films, Kuchar, Warm Shadows, Embers, and An Orphanage of Memories, each tracing intimate journeys through memory, desire, and loss. In Kuchar, a young girl’s moment of awakening unsettles the quiet rhythms of a conservative home, revealing buried tensions between mother and daughter. Warm Shadows unfolds as a tender, fractured dialogue across time and distance, where questions of identity, choice, and queerness ripple through a mother-child relationship. With Embers, a filmmaker assembles a poetic archive of grief, weaving together image, sound, and memory to search for a shifting sense of self. An Orphanage of Memories follows a grieving widow in Kashmir whose fragile hold on the past takes root in a desperate act of preservation.
Across these films, personal histories become sites of quiet resistance, where the body, memory, and landscape hold what cannot always be spoken. Together, they offer a deeply introspective meditation on inheritance, absence, and the fragile ways we continue to remember.
