About the Event

Rooted in the tribal traditions of Jharkhand, Sohrai is a folk art form that celebrates nature, animals, and everyday rural life. Traditionally painted on mud walls during harvest festivals, Sohrai features rhythmic lines, geometric patterns, and earthy tones made from natural pigments.

In this workshop, you’ll get an introduction to the history and symbolism behind Sohrai art and explore its motifs – from peacocks and cows to forests, leaves, and simple tribal forms. With guided support, you’ll learn how to transfer these designs onto fabric and create your own hand-painted T-shirt using acrylic paints.

What's included:

✔️ All material required for the workshop

✔️ Step by step guidance by our mentoring artist

✔️ Coffee, Tea, Nibbles and the company of the fun-est people!

About Gali Art Fest 2025

Gali Art Fest is an initiative of Alive Studio to honour India’s handmade traditions — not through textbooks or timelines, but by picking up the brush ourselves. Our team of mentors & art practitioners guide you through folk and craft-inspired workshops where you’ll try traditional techniques and reimagine them in ways that fit into your everyday — on journals, textiles, keepsakes, and walls. It’s for anyone who’s curious about where our art comes from, and how we can keep it alive — not by preserving it in glass, but by making it with our own hands.
