A workshop exploring line, rhythm, and negative space through the transformation of cloth.
Explore how removing threads from cloth can create lines, patterns, and spaces within the fabric itself. Led by artist Jaimini Jariwala, the workshop draws connections with the practices of Nasreen Mohamedi and Bice Lazzari, inviting participants to discover how absence, repetition, and rhythm become elements of artistic expression.
Working directly with cloth, participants carefully remove individual threads to create gaps, shapes, and patterns within the fabric's existing structure. Through hands-on experimentation, they explore the relationship between presence and absence, transforming a familiar material into a delicate drawing through subtraction.
About the Artist:
Jaimini Jariwala is a Surat-based visual artist and printmaker whose practice is deeply influenced by the city's textile industry and her family's long association with the textile trade. Working primarily with monoprint and textile, she explores the material possibilities, structures, and histories embedded within fabric.
