A Photo Walk in Old Delhi

Walk through the nooks and corners of Old Delhi and attempt to make photographs that reflect the everyday and the ordinary away from the stereotypes that have come to define this section of the city. Part of KNMA’s City as Museum Series, the group will be led by photographer and filmmaker Chandan Savio Gomes who has spent his childhood in Old Delhi. The photo walk will bring together dialogue, conversation and art making. 

Bring your camera along for the walk,  it can be any camera -whether it is your phone, digital camera or DSLR! We advise you to wear good walking shoes and comfortable clothing. Please carry a cloth to cover your head as the walk will end at Jama Masjid. The assembly point of the walk is the Chandni Chowk Metro Station – Gate no 5. Other logistical details will be shared with the participant over email.

Chandan Savio Gomes is an independent filmmaker and photographer based out of Delhi, India. He has read Philosophy at St. Stephen's College, Delhi. Chandan has won numerous awards and fellowships and has been exhibited widely – Les Recontres d’Arles, France, Kochi Muziris Biennale, Foto Fest Biennale, Houston, Serendipity Arts Festival (2018), Asia House, London, Zeytiburnu International Photography Festival, Istanbul and Benaki Museum, Athens, amongst other places. His most recent exhibitions were held at Printed Matter, Inc., New York, MMAG Foundation, Amman, Landskrona Museum, Sweden and Rubenstein Arts Centre, U.S.A. He was also the artist in residence at Centre for Documentary Studies, Duke University (2019). Chandan's debut film is ready for release. He dreams of opening a stationery shop one day. 

City as Museum Series: The programme reimagines the city as a museum with a life of its own and its visitor as the flâneur, a mindful passerby. Each walk will be unique in itself and led by an expert thoroughly knowledgeable in the subject matter and the specific urban site of concern. The series will locate and bring into discourse specific zones of engagement in Delhi and the National Capital Region that have served as a repository of local history and creative inspiration to a community of individual artists. Each walk will aim to revisit and engage with certain urban spaces as a means to claim a piece of the shared lived experience through an approach using oral dissemination and immersive participation.
