About the workshop:
This poetry workshop will draw inspiration from the meanings and resonances in Tyeb Mehta’s diagonals and falling figures. It will explore questions such as: what diagonals do we create in life, and which are imposed upon us? Where are the figures falling, and will their fall ever end? Where do they disjoint and fragment, and where do they unify?
Through poetry, the participants will enter into Tyeb Mehta’s painting and themselves, touching upon feelings of longing, displacement, memory, and fragmentation - ideas that deeply resonate within Mehta’s works and continue to hold urgency today. The participants will be given creative prompts and guided exercises to engage with the diagonal and falling figures in their visual, emotional, and socio-political forms. This will be an engaging and comforting circle of ideas and dialogues, where everyone will be heard and encouraged.
Materials Required: Pen and Writing pads
About Dillipoetry:
Dillipoetry is a literary platform committed to making poetry accessible, experiential, and embodied. Over the past three years, it has curated more than 150+ poetry walks and workshops exploring themes such as climate emergency, queer ecologies, resistance, identity, romanticism, and humanity’s relationship with nature. Through these gatherings, Dillipoetry has built an intimate community of over 280 poets across multiple cities, creating spaces for reflection, dialogue, and collective imagination. At the heart of its work lies an ongoing inquiry: what does it mean to be human in this political and ecological moment? Through poetry, Dillipoetry seeks to question, and perhaps reimagine the world together.
About Meeting Point:
‘Meeting Point’ is a space of critical intersection, a circle of ideas and readings featured around key works and themes in artist Tyeb Mehta’s practice. The title is an ode to Mehta’s 1970 film Koodal, which in Tamil translates to ‘meeting point’. Here, each session will focus on unravelling and intricately analysing the various nuances of his practice through intimate formats such as discussions, workshops, lectures, poetry, sketching and more.
Every session will have a different theme, ranging from his Diagonal series, Bull series, Rickshaw pullers, Falling man and Falling bird, Drummers, Kali and Mahishasura. Artists, poets, and scholars from diverse perspectives will be invited to these informal gatherings, where free-flowing and flexible conversations will be encouraged. It’s a way to reflect on the contemporary relevance of an artist like Tyeb Mehta, his works, and his philosophy. The aim is to transform the exhibition space's staticity into a living discursive space.
