The Sarod Quintet
The Sarod Quintet – Three Generations, One Legacy:
Keeping India’s musical traditions alive, The Three Generation Quintet brings together the 6th, 7th, and 8th generations of an unbroken lineage on stage. The concert features Sarod Grand Master Amjad Ali Khan, his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, and Ayaan’s 12-year-old twins Zohaan and Abeer. The family recently performed for the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India at the WAVE Summit.

Amjad Ali Khan:
One of the world’s most acclaimed sarod masters, Amjad Ali Khan represents the 6th generation of the Senia Bangash lineage. A disciple of his father Haafiz Ali Khan, he gave his first performance at age six and is credited with reinventing sarod technique.
Across six decades, he has received numerous honors including a Grammy nomination, the Crystal Award (World Economic Forum), UNICEF National Ambassadorship, and Fukuoka Cultural Grand Prize. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, and the Nobel Peace Prize Concert (2014).
His concerto Samaagam has been performed by orchestras across the globe. A visiting professor at Stanford University and Jacob’s School of Music, he was awarded the Global Music Award (Gold Medal) for excellence in classical music.
He has also collaborated with Joe Walsh, Gwen Stefani, and Jon Bon Jovi for VetsAid Charity Concerts (2020–21), and co-created the EP Prayers—a cross-cultural tribute to frontline workers.
Amaan Ali Bangash & Ayaan Ali Bangash:
Representing the 7th generation of their lineage, Amaan and Ayaan are acclaimed sarod virtuosos known for their seamless blend of tradition and innovation. They have performed worldwide at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, and Royal Albert Hall, and collaborated with artists such as Derek Trucks, Sharon Isbin, Evelyn Glennie, and major orchestras globally.
They performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert (2014) and received the Global Music Award (Gold Medal) for their album Peace Worshippers. Recently, they have been announced as Associate Artists at Wigmore Hall (London) and served as Visiting Professors at the University of Chicago.
Zohaan Ali Bangash & Abeer Ali Bangash:
The 12-year-old twins of Ayaan Ali Bangash, Zohaan and Abeer, represent the 8th generation of this musical lineage. Trained by their father and grandfather, they debuted at age 10 and released their first single Our Love in 2020.
They have performed at Amazing Indians Awards, a five-city Sarod Quintet tour (2023) celebrating India’s 75th Independence, Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (Mumbai, 2023), Symphony Space (New York, 2023), and made their UK debut at Wigmore Hall (2024).
