Craftopia, KNMA’s annual summer camp for children, returns this June with a new edition. This year’s theme - Travel Through Time- invites young participants on an immersive, interactive journey through global civilisations, uncovering how people across different eras lived, played, traded, created, and communicated. Through a thoughtfully curated series of 10 hands-on workshops, children will explore the artistic traditions and cultural legacies of the past—reimagining ancient murals, decoding lost scripts, crafting royal treasures, and more. For the age group from 6-14 years.


Guided by artists and educators, each session becomes a time travel adventure: using crafts, stories, and symbols to bring history alive through hands-on activities.


Whether it's constructing a "magic box" inspired by ancient trade routes, painting miniatures, or shaping everyday vessels out of clay, every workshop offers a chance to connect with human creativity across centuries.


Your time-travelling craft quest promises to take you across 10 civilisations, featuring:


Day 1. Tales of Trade. - Personal Histories and Magic Boxes from the past


Uncover the journeys of objects across borders and generations, and how trade shaped art, identity, and imagination.


Day 2. Play Like the Ancients - Traditional Board Games 


Step into the world of traditional board games to explore how communities created joy, connection, and strategy.


Day 3. A Royal Me - Mughal Miniatures and Regal Identity


Explore the grandeur of imperial portraiture and how rulers across history crafted powerful images of themselves.


Day 4. Turning Clay into a Royal Treasure- Objects and Ornamentation Across Empires


Discover how ornamentation, symmetry, and belief came together in the artefacts of Central Asia


Day 5. Inventing Form - Everyday Vessels and Their Stories


Celebrate the humble vessel and its role in daily life, revealing how form, function, and beauty coexisted.


Day 6. When Marks Became a Message - Scripts and Communication Systems


Trace the evolution of written language and how early scripts helped us record and reimagine our world.


Day 7. Recording Episodes - Murals from Assyrian Sites


Wander through ancient murals to uncover how walls became witnesses to myth, memory, and movement.


Day 8. Remembering Ancestors - Ritual and Storytelling 


Exploring how ritual and storytelling connect us to the past and ground us in the present.


Day 9. The History Makers – Identities and Credits


Discover how emperors left their mark on creations—and how every artwork carries a trace of its maker’s identity and intent.


Day 10. Material Translations – Modelling and beyond


This workshop reflects on how generations re-imagined humble materials into toys—creations of leisure that carried imagination, identity, and ingenuity across time.

Please note: Craftopia tickets do not include entry to the National Museum. Parents/guardians will need to purchase museum entry tickets separately.
