Exploring Gender Beyond Binaries
Trikāyā journeys into one of the most compelling and layered narratives from the Mahabharata, drawing from the story of Brihannala, the form assumed by Arjuna the archer during his final year of exile. Cursed by the apsara Urvashi, Arjuna takes on a transgender form and becomes a dance instructor to Princess Uttara. The work explores transformation, embodiment, and the fluidity of identity.
Rooted in the vocabulary of Odissi, a form shaped by both feminine histories and male lineages, the performance reveals how movement can hold and express identities beyond rigid binaries.
