Inspired by the expressive visual language of Tyeb Mehta, this workshop explores how human figures can be simplified into bold shapes and colour blocks while still conveying a strong emotional presence, just as Mehta’s works often reduce the figure to geometric structures and flat planes, shifting the focus from realistic detail to intensity and feeling.
In this session, participants will create their own abstract portraits by breaking down facial features and forms into simplified shapes. Using colour and composition, they will experiment with how minimal elements can communicate mood, tension, and expression, moving beyond likeness to explore emotional storytelling.
Designed for children and adults to create together, this workshop encourages families to think about portraiture in new ways. It offers an engaging introduction to abstraction, showing how reducing detail can deepen meaning and how powerful visual narratives can emerge through simplicity.
