About the Event

Directed by Ingmar Bergman

1957 | Black & White | 96min

Swedish with English subtitles.

Inspired by the ongoing exhibition ‘History Lab and the Elegy of Visceral Incantations’ by T. V. Santhosh.

Join us for the film screening followed by a discussion with the artist T. V. Santhosh and filmmaker Kuntal Bhogilal. T. V. Santhosh will begin the conversation by discussing the impact of cinema and particularly Bergman's work on his practice.

The story follows a medieval knight who returns to Sweden after a war only to find the Black Death sweeping the country. As they approach home, Death appears before the knight and tells him it is his time. The knight challenges Death to a chess game for his life. One of the most influential films of its time, The Seventh Seal is a stunning allegory of man’s search for meaning. Ingmar Bergman mounts a profound inquiry into the nature of faith and the torment of mortality.

Please join us for tea at 5:30 pm.

The screening of the film will begin at 6 pm.
