Hindustan Times is launching India’s biggest coding Olympiad for school children, HT Codeathon.

HT Codeathon is an ideal platform for the students to learn coding and showcase the talent of our young budding coders thereby putting them on an accelerated path to success.

Student Registration Process

• The student will sign up with personal details such as name, email id, phone number, school details, and a photo. A digital copy of the school ID card as proof of identity is mandatory for Competition. In case the student does not have the current academic year school ID, then student can upload last year’s ID as well. The option to upload the student ID will be provided after the successful payment.
• The student will be directed to the payment page where payment can be made using debit/credit card, net banking, UPI, digital wallets, etc. Post making successful payment a student can login and start their journey.
• If a parent wishes to register more than one child, they can use the same email-id and phone number for the 2nd registration. All students will have to create a separate and unique “USER-ID” and password which they can use throughout the program.
• Based on the student’s Standard /Class the course will be assigned automatically.
• The students will be earning points at every step of the registration process and payment.

My Dashboard

• After registration, the students will be taken to their respective dashboards where they can find the details regarding the course modules, qualifiers, and finale.
• Details about the scoring and the point system.
• Details about the course videos, video quizzes, chapter quizzes, course quizzes, mock qualifiers and qualifiers.
• Details about qualifier methodology.
• Details about Finale Methodology.
• The student’s dashboard will provide details related to
• Leadership Board: Which will show the rank of the student.
• Achievements: They can view their achievements and share through social media.
• There will be Chat support which will help the students solve questions/logics.

My Course Content

• The course content will comprise of the following elements:
• Multiple Chapters
• Video Content: These will be self-paced learning modules (Video and Text contents)
• Video Quizzes: These will appear once the student completes a video
• Chapter Quizzes: These will appear at the end of every chapter
• Course Quiz: This will appear at the end of the course
• A chapter will consist of multiple videos and video quizzes. All videos and chapter quizzes are non-skippable and mandatory.
• Completion of all of these is necessary for eligibility of the Codeathon Qualifiers.
• There are points awarded on completion of every Videos, Video Quizzes and Chapter Quizzes.
• The students will be ranked on these acquired points.
• Completion of one video is necessary for moving on to the next.
• A student needs to pass the chapter quizzes with a minimum of 80% or above. A student gets two chances to complete the chapter quiz. If a student fails on those two chances get promoted with points accumulated in the second attempt.
• A student needs to pass the course quiz with a minimum of 60% or above. A student gets three chances to complete the course quiz. If a student fails on those three chances doesn’t qualify for the qualifier and gets a certificate of participation.

Qualifiers

• To reach the qualifiers, a student needs to complete all the Videos, Video Quizzes, chapter Quizzes and Course Quizzes.
• There will be two mock tests available for students to attempt before the qualifier. These mock tests will help the students prepare for the actual qualifier.

Points System

• Points will be rewarded for every student interaction, which would include
• Registrations
• Payments
• Profile Completion
• Referral(s)
• Daily login
• Social engagements
• Chapter completion
• Quiz completion
• Video completion
• Project Submission
• Qualifier
• A student will qualify for the Codeathon Finale on the basis of the points they have acquired during the entire program.
• The top 100 students from each zone and each category will be selected based on their performance in the qualifier and the total score.
• The finalists will be chosen based on their overall performance and points collected till the end of qualifiers.
• Details of the point system will be provided to each student through their personal dashboard.

School Registration

• Once the student registers with their school name, the Codeathon team will get in touch with the school and also communicates the details of registration.
• A dashboard will be provided to schools to check performance of their student. Also, schools can monitor the activity and progress of each student.

Courses & Learning Environment

• Classes VI-VII students will be learning Website Designing Course using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. At the end of the course, they will be able to build a working website.
• Classes VIII-IX students will be learning Game Development Course using Python3 and PyGame Library. The students will be able to make basic games once they are done with the game development course.
• There is a coding playground online, also known as IDE (Integrated Development Environment) under the practice button in my dashboard. This can be used by students to practice coding while they are learning.

General Instructions

• Post student registration, parents can login to parent’s dashboard using their mobile number and OTP verification. Notifications via email and SMS will be sent to parents on the performance of their ward(s) in a periodic manner.
• There will be a dashboard for the parents where they can check the performance and monitor the activity and progress of their child.
• Registered students will have access to chat support which will assist them to solve and understand logic during the program. No support/answers for Quizzes will be provided to the students. Live Chat support is available during 9AM-6PM on working days, for queries in any other timings students can leave a message, Chat support will answer in next 8 working hours .
• Registered students may also share their referral coupon or link to earn more points.
• Account verification and Password reset can only be done through OTP and Email verification.

Certifications & Awards

• Codeathon Champions will be given large promotion via the Hindustan Times network on Print, Digital, Social Media, Radio, etc.
• Grand Prizes for the Codeathon Champions include Laptops, Smartwatches, and others.
• Students will get a certification of completion and other exciting prizes upon completion of the course.
• Every registered student will receive a certificate of participation.

Tools and Software

• For Website Designing Software is brackets which you can download from brackets.io languages that you will use are HTML5, CSS3, JS.
• For Game Development Software is Anaconda with PyGame module which can be downloaded from anaconda.com language that you will learn is Python.
