Interactions with Kairoi and Art Passage Walkthrough

Meeting Point - Select City Walk, beside the Apple store

KNMA invites you to the opening of KAIROI, followed by a special walkthrough of the exhibition Slow is the New Urgent with curator Avik Debdas and participating artists Sonam Chaturvedi, Tahsin Akhtar, Hifzul Kabeer, Mohd. Intiyaz, and Manveer Singh.

Step into the Art Passage—a corridor between commerce and contemplation—where this one-time event offers a chance to slow down, speak with the artists, and experience the exhibition through their lens.

At the heart of this moment is KAIROI (2019–24), a time-sensitive vending machine that asks users to give their time, not money. Developed as part of Five Million Incidents in collaboration with Raqs Media Collective and supported by Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, the project questions how we assign value of time, labor, and memory in an age of algorithmic consumption. Here, snacks like Parle-G or Phantom Sweet Cigarettes become tokens of nostalgia and reflection, exchanged not for cash but for minutes of your life.

Installed within Slow is the New Urgent, a show that challenges the frenzied rhythms of consumer culture, KAIROI opens up a shared space to reconsider the pace at which we live, consume, and connect.

This is a rare opportunity to engage directly with the artists and curator—come for the art, stay for the conversation.
