About the Event

Junnar has over 200 cave excavations spread over four hills. Junnar Caves were built between 3rd century BC and 3rd century AD. You'll notice quite a few water reservoirs and dwelling areas (viharas) which helped sustain a large settlement in the area. Junnar Caves consist of four groups of caves - Lenayadri or Ganesh Lena (one of the most popular ones), Sivaneri, Manmodi and Tuljalena, each with their own beautiful features. Book tickets now!

Things to see
  • The extensive circular dome ceiling and 12 octagonal pillars in Cave 3 of Tulja caves
  • The image of Ganesh in cave 7 of the Lenayadri, which is one of the Ashtavinayak shrines, (Maharashtra's eight prominent shrines for Ganesha)
How to get there?
  • By road, there are regular buses from Pune to Junnar every hour. If you're coming from Mumbai you can take a car/taxi.
  • The nearest station is the railway station in Pune.
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the nearest airport at a distance of 154 km.
