About the Event
The Medieval Bengali Literature Appreciation Course – a series of weekly in-person classes at KCC – explores the filigreed tapestry of Bengali literature from the early and medieval periods, focusing on its devotional, lyrical, and narrative forms.
Through close readings of key texts – both oral and written – participants will examine the literary, linguistic, socio-political, and religious developments that shaped Bengali literary culture from the 10th to the 18th centuries. Special attention will be paid to translation, cultural exchange, syncretic traditions, and the impact of major religious movements such as Buddhism, Vaishnavism, Shaktism, and Sufism.
Course duration: 24 weeks, starting on 16 June 2025
Classes on: Mondays (4:30 – 6:00 PM)
Recommended for anyone above 16 years of age with basic knowledge of Bengali
