David Koepp's story is intriguing. David Koepp's screenplay is effective. He wrote JURASSIC PARK [1993] and THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK [1997], that is the first two parts of the iconic franchise. As a result, he brings some freshness and also old-school entertainment to the writing. The dialogues are great.

Gareth Edwards' direction is very entertaining. This is his first JURASSIC WORLD film and provides his own touch. The move pays off as one can sense that one can experience something different from the previous films and yet it remains in the zone that the series is known for. The plot itself is promising and once the expedition begins, it makes for a thrilling ride. Some of the scenes that stand out are Rebuen's ship getting destroyed, Zora successfully getting the blood samples of the Mosasaurus, Xavier relieving himself while violence breaks out behind him, the madness involving the raft, etc. The scene of Titanosaurus is sweet and brings some relief from the chase and thrill. The finale is nail-biting.
On the flipside, though the plot is not clichéd, the visuals are. The VFX team, of course, has given their best but the tension gets diluted as we have seen it all before. The final fight is stretched and there are cinematic liberties galore in the narrative. It’s also difficult to digest that there is no supervision happening through satellite over boats entering the prohibited zone. Lastly, the film releases amid many other exciting movies and this can prove detrimental.
Scarlett Johansson brings star value and also delivers a kickass performance. She is no damsel in distress and is the protector here, a part that suits her completely. Mahershala Ali charms with his smile and able performance. Jonathan Bailey is a bit subtle and it works for him. Rupert Friend is apt for the part. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo lends able support and communicates a lot just through his expressions. David Iacono is the surprise of the film. One expects his character to be a certain way but he does the unexpected. Luna Blaise gives an effective performance while Audrina Miranda is cute. Bechir Sylvain, Philippine Velge and Ed Skrein are okay in small roles.
On the whole, JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH delivers the expected thrills, with the writing and execution bringing a touch of freshness to the franchise. However, its box office potential may remain underutilized due to the absence of an IMAX release and intense competition from holdover titles, new releases and upcoming films.

When a major drug firm sends specialist operatives on what can only be called a suicide mission, you know whatever can go wrong, will. They set sail for Suriname—an uncharted, dinosaur-infested island once home to the original revival lab. Rebirth wastes no time proving these creatures were never meant to exist.
Director Gareth Edwards retains the franchise’s signature tension while writer David Koepp ventures into fresh territory. Gone are the theme-park thrills and lab mishaps; here, the beasts themselves dominate every frame. Instead, we face colossal hybrids like the sea-circling Mosasaurus and the earth-shaking Titanosaurus, not to mention the fearsome Distortus rex—a mutation built for maximum carnage — each sequence delivering genuine jolts and jaw-dropping scale that demand a big-screen experience.
However, the human drama often falls flat. The rescue of the Delgado family feels forced rather than earned, and supporting characters exist mainly to be chased rather than to deepen the plot.
Scarlett Johansson is solid as the determined Zora Bennett, yet her performance is frequently overshadowed by these larger-than-life creatures. Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali—portraying Dr. Loomis and team leader Duncan Kincaid, respectively—are capable but underused when every scene competes with another roar or wingbeat.
Visually, John Mathieson’s cinematography is spectacular, capturing both the island’s lush menace and the awe-inspiring presence of its inhabitants. Alexandre Desplat’s score underpins the action with a stirring mix of dread and wonder, though uneven CGI occasionally betrays the illusion.
In addition to the jaw-dropping set pieces, the film’s pacing keeps viewers on the edge of their seat, rarely allowing for a dull moment. The editing transitions smoothly between frenetic action and brief reprieves, giving audiences just enough time to catch their breath before the next dinosaur showdown. The sound design also deserves a shout-out – every footstep, roar, and distant shriek contributes to an immersive audio landscape that truly envelops the theater.
Narratively, the film hints at deeper questions around playing God with nature and the moral cost of human ambition, but these threads are never fully explored. Still, the spectacle is so compelling that viewers may forgive the lack of emotional depth. Family dynamics, corporate greed, and ethical debates hover in the background, but the heart of Rebirth is pure, unadulterated dino carnage.
In the end, Jurassic World Rebirth doesn’t reinvent the franchise—it doubles down on dinosaur mayhem. It stumbles when balancing character depth with creature spectacle, but it soars when the hybrids take flight.

It’s been nearly three decades since 'Jurassic Park' first made us afraid of kitchen raptors and rippling water in a glass. And now, after a string of sequels that occasionally tripped over their own nostalgia, here’s the surprise: this film is actually one of the best sequels in the franchise.

After the uneven terrain of past 'Jurassic World' entries, 'Rebirth' takes the series back to its roots, be it misty jungles, creeping suspense or terrifying creatures lurking in the shadows, all with the glossy blockbuster sheen we’ve come to expect. Directed by Gareth Edwards, with a script by David Koepp, this instalment knows exactly what it wants to be - fun, scary, nostalgic, and just the right amount of ridiculous.

And leading the charge? Scarlett Johansson, who finally gets her dino moment. For fans wondering what Johansson was doing in a Jurassic film, the answer is stealing every scene she's in. She plays her role as part scientist, part survivor with conviction and heart. In a film where most people are running for their lives, she stands tall, quite literally playing knight while others are busy bickering or getting chomped.
Mahershala Ali also gives the role more weight than it deserves. Always dependable, he brings gravitas to the screen, but it feels like the script forgets what to do with him halfway through.

Rupert Friend plays the villain with a cartoonish flair that’s oddly entertaining. On the other hand, Jonathan Bailey, despite his talents, is given a character that dampens the energy. As a brooding scientist-type, he tries to channel emotional depth but ends up feeling like the party guest constantly reminding everyone of the dangers of having fun. A solid actor, misused.

The film doesn’t waste time. We’re dropped into a mysterious island where mutant dinosaurs roam, and things go south fast. What stands out this time is the horror tone. There’s a real effort to bring back that creeping dread, long silences, foggy forests, sudden roars. One could argue it's the most suspenseful entry since the original.
The dinosaurs? They look stunning. From the classics to new, terrifying hybrids, the VFX team deserves a standing ovation. Watching a Distortus Rex stalk prey in a smoky corridor or a Quetzalcoatlus swoop out of nowhere makes it clear that this franchise still knows how to stage a heart-stopping moment.
Visually, the film is a treat. The cinematography channels a ‘90s vibe in the best way possible, warm hues, wide shots of jungle vistas, and clever nods to Spielberg’s visual language. Watching it in 3D only enhances the immersion.

Now, is the story airtight? Not really. There are convenient plot twists, characters who disappear when no longer useful, and logic gaps big enough to park a 'Brachiosaurus' in. A random family gets wedged into the plot and somehow keeps escaping danger with utopian luck. And there’s plenty of “just-go-with-it” science. But somehow, none of that ruins the experience.

What makes 'Rebirth' click is its energy and sincerity. Unlike previous entries that tried to blend sentimentality with spectacle, this one goes all-in on suspense, action, and retro thrills. The movie isn’t trying to make a grand point; it just wants to entertain you. And in that, it fully succeeds.

For longtime fans, it feels like a reward. There are clear homages to the original, from the musical cues to visual callbacks, but they’re used smartly, not just as nostalgia bait. And for newer audiences? It’s the kind of dino movie that could turn someone into a fan overnight.

As far as a reason to go poking dinosaurs goes, this is more altruistic than a theme park. A greedy big pharmaceutical corporation (there is no other kind) is hoping to source blood and tissue samples from live dinosaurs, as big as can be found, to develop a solution to heart attacks. Bigger a dinosaur equals bigger coronary muscles, and so on.

That means going into a forbidden dinosaur zone around the equatorial region, and hence a team comprising the pharma firm employee, a scientist and some mercenary special operation types must come together for an expedition. The goal is to collect a sample each from a dinosaur species that lives on land, in water and in air, to cover all the bases.

On screen, this translates into a chance to wrestle the big, heaving, snarling creatures three different ways. It also provides a chance to a pretty impressive cast, in front and behind the camera, to showcase their skills.
Director Gareth Edwards has been polishing his craft in special effects and special dangers (Monsters, Godzilla, The Creator) for more than a decade-and-a-half now, while writer David Koepp was associated with the original Jurassic Park (circa 1993, circa Steven Spielberg), and has written other franchise starters such as Spider-Man and Mission: Impossible.
Together, they have a film that keeps the heart both pounding and beating. The emotions seem real, the friendships are tender, a family of a father, two daughters and a boyfriend is not awkward at all, and even the tropes of the nerdy and the greedy, you can live with. As for the dinosaurs, they are mostly “mutants” here, the results of genetic fiddling gone wrong. And so they are large, and scary, and angry, attacking with their beaks or teeth or jaws or claws, overturning a raft and trampling a jeep. But if they are relentless and tireless most of the time, there is also a quiet moment in the sun, in a field full of tall grass, when two of them are necking and, subtly and gently, one can see their arousal.

Johansson and Ali play the special operation experts, both bringing a special something to their battle-hardened personas. They are hired by the pharma shark played by Friend to sail to somewhere near Suriname, in pursuit of the dinosaurs. Bailey is a dinosaur expert caught in a dead-end job at a museum, who jumps at the chance of seeing his beloved creatures in their real, natural habitats; he gets at least one teary-eyed moment on seeing the creatures up close. Garcia-Rulfo, Blaise, Iacono and Miranda are together the family whose small boat trip crosses paths with the film’s big adventure.
This is the seventh film in the Jurassic series, and the wonder of seeing dinosaurs stride across the screen has naturally worn off over the past 30 years. The best Edwards and Koepp can hope for is awe, and Rebirth does capture that – till it decides to go on and on, and starts repeating itself.

The one thing we have not seen earlier, and wish there had been more of, happens right at the beginning. Humans are so used to dinosaurs by now that no one is even coming to the zoos for a glimpse. Then, one day, a bored sauropod decides to plonk itself right in the middle of a crossing in Manhattan, leaving New Yorkers in a jam, cursing and honking.

“Ooh, ah. That’s how it always starts. But then later, there’s running and, umm, screaming,” so said Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm in one of the first Jurassic Parks. Bet he didn’t see a road jam coming.


Jurassic World: Rebirth isn’t a reboot, but it may as well be. While technically a standalone sequel to Jurassic World Dominion, it discards much of the convoluted lore and genetic conspiracy clutter that bogged down its predecessors, opting instead for a simpler, sleeker narrative structure reminiscent of the original Jurassic Park. This back-to-basics approach largely works in its favour, even if the film never quite roars with the same ferocity or inventiveness that launched the franchise into the pop-culture phenomenon.

Directed by Gareth Edwards and penned by returning Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, Rebirth takes a simple and effective approach with humans, dinosaurs and an isolated island leading to inevitable chaos. The story unfolds five years after the events of Dominion, in a world where most dinosaurs have perished due to harsh modern climates. Enter Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), a covert ops expert recruited for a DNA-extraction mission on a remote equatorial island where dinos still thrive. Joining her is paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey), pharmaceutical rep Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend) and her former partner Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali), among others.
Their goal? Obtain DNA samples from three dominant dinosaur species – of air, land and sea – to engineer a life-saving heart medication. But of course, things go awry fast. Parallel to this mission, a separate subplot follows the Delgado family, who is shipwrecked by a mosasaur and becomes stranded on the same island. Their storyline, particularly that of Ruben Delgado (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) and his daughters, adds emotional stakes but also stretches the film thin, at times turning it into two films awkwardly stitched together.

Scarlett Johansson throws herself into Zora with gusto, climbing cliffs, outwitting mutant dinos and scaling tunnel systems like it’s second nature. Mahershala Ali, ever the steady hand, plays Duncan as a deeply moral man grappling with grief and reluctant heroism. Their chemistry feels natural, though the script gives little room for their dynamic to fully ignite. Rupert Friend’s villainous Pharma exec leans more caricature than complexity, though his smarminess suits the franchise’s long history of capitalist baddies.
Unfortunately, the film falters with its pacing and tonal inconsistencies. The dual narratives rarely coalesce into a cohesive whole. The Delgado family, while an attempt at inclusivity and innocence, feels underwritten. Xavier, the boyfriend, is particularly grating and may go down as one of the most bite-worthy characters in franchise history. Thankfully, young Isabella (Audrina Miranda) and her bond with Dolores add warmth, even as her family remains largely disconnected from the plot’s main thrust.

What Rebirth does right is remind audiences why we loved dinosaurs in the first place. There’s a sincerity in its spectacle, an acknowledgment that the franchise thrives not in convoluted plotting but in awe, fear and survival instincts. Bailey, Ali and Johansson do their best to lend emotional weight to a fairly straightforward story and Edwards keeps things moving, even when the script sags in its middle act.


But while Rebirth is definitely an improvement over Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, it never quite becomes essential. It’s an entertaining chapter in a franchise that probably should’ve ended after the original trilogy. Still, if we must continue reviving dinosaurs, better it be with this level of care, clarity and genuine fun.

There’s nothing revolutionary here, but Jurassic World: Rebirth proves there’s still life in these bones and just enough bite to keep us coming back.
