Malayalam cinema has frequently explored atmospheric thrillers, and debut director Jithu Satheesan Mangalathu attempts to follow that tradition with Sambhavam Adhyayam Onnu. One of the film’s main strengths is its setting. The dense forest is not just a backdrop; it almost feels like a character itself, creating a constant sense of tension and unease.
The film begins on an intriguing note. It introduces the mysterious stories surrounding the forest and the strange disappearances of those who enter it. This gradually builds curiosity and keeps the audience wondering what really lies inside the forest. However, although the idea behind the film is interesting and promises an engaging thriller, the screenplay does not always maintain the same level of excitement. The second half feels slightly slow and could have maintained stronger suspense with a tighter narrative. The film also suggests that Malayalam cinema has significant potential to explore stories rooted in forest landscapes. At the same time, it hints at the largely untapped possibilities of themes such as time travel and time loops within the industry.
Askar Ali delivers a steady performance, portraying a character who moves between curiosity and uncertainty. Vineeth Kumar and Sidharth Bharathan provide strong support, adding seriousness and intensity to the film. Assim Jamal and Senthil Krishna also play their parts well and help maintain the film’s tense mood. The film also features several newcomers who deliver commendable performances. However, a few of the key characters are not developed in enough detail, which slightly weakens the emotional impact of the story.
The cinematography by Naveen Najose captures the mysterious beauty of the forest very well. The editing by Arjun Prakash keeps the story mostly clear and easy to follow, though some scenes could have been shorter. The overall atmosphere of the film adds strongly to the mood and tension of the story.
