The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Story Review:
Matthew Fogel’s story organically advances the journey of the principal characters while also introducing new ones. Matthew Fogel's screenplay is fast-paced and peppered with exciting and entertaining moments. At the same time, the writing leaves a lot to be desired. The dialogues are fine and some one-liners raise laughs.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic’s direction is efficient. The duo retains the approach they adopted in THE SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE [2023] – incorporating elements from the video game to tap into fans’ nostalgia, while also ensuring that kids enjoy the characters and the goings-on. The character of Yoshi is very cute and mischievous and will have a separate fan base after this film. The changing equation between the brothers and Bowser also makes for an interesting watch in the first half. Another interesting moment in the film is the casino sequence. It’s quite fascinating.

On the flipside, the writing is not up to the mark. The Rosalina-Peach bond remains underdeveloped and also gives a déjà vu of FROZEN. One will be reminded of several other animated films as well while watching the film. A very popular character from the first film is sadly missing. A character like Fox McCloud (Glen Powell) is cool, but he could have been better utilized. Another issue is that the father-son bond of Bowser and Bowser Jr will leave viewers bewildered.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Review Performances:
Chris Pratt and Charlie Day continue their fine voice work as Mario and Luigi, respectively. Jack Black and Benny Safdie, however, take the cake and add immense entertainment value with their voice performances. Brie Larson does well and is a bit unrecognizable. Anya Taylor-Joy is decent, while Glen Powell is aptly cast. Donald Glover, too, leaves a mark with his cute voiceover.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie music and other technical aspects:
Brian Tyler's music is praiseworthy and the usage of the Mario game theme is exhilarating. The animation matches global standards while the 3D is appealing; it’s not done for the heck of it. Eric Osmond's editing is fast-paced.

On the whole, THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE is another entertaining flick from this franchise and a must-see for fans. Despite the competition, it has the potential to find an audience in India.



Mario is more than just a video game character. It’s imbedded in our collective consciousness. One can only have fond memories of playing this dangerously contagious game. The cassette wrongly promoted 1001 games into one whereas there were barely 10. One of them was Super Mario. The tune can transport us back in time anytime. There were two of them. One in orange and the other in green. The green one appeared only when the orange one died. Player one and player two to be precise. The game is all about saving his princess who’s hidden far ahead in a cave and the time is ticking on our superhero or super video game character. Who can forget the bricks, the mushrooms, the star, the long jump towards the end, the dungeon like passage to pass from one level to another?
Now we have a movie on the iconic and innocuous character. And here too, the raison d’être is a princess. Actually two of them. So we have two Marios and two princesses for the price of one. And this time too, they have to be saved. Do not expect the movie to be like the video game we have grown-up playing; even though the structure and the texture of the characters continue to be the same. But the makers of the movie have given one more dimension to the world they have created in the form of the two princesses we just spoke about. In that video game, we had to wait for a very long time before we saw how the princess looked. But going by what the makers have in store for us, the ladies are genuinely beautiful, albeit animated.
The game that we grew up playing belonged to the 90s. The film is inspired by the 2007 version of the game, which I must confess I have not even seen. The best thing about the movie is that it is only 98 minutes long. It is charismatic and crisp. But to say that it is an absolute perfect outing will be a fallacy. There are moments when you see that the narrative is overstaying its welcome. But makers more than make up for it by the animation. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and production companies Nintendo and Illumination have one thing very clear in mind- To entertain the audiences and fans. And that too in 3-D.
It is a flawed but fun film. But how about allowing the audiences to play the game on the big screen? Will that be possible ever? There are a lot of breathless sequences that the directors have shown in the film. Now, just imagine if you were allowed to rescue the princess by playing the game on a 70-MM screen. That would truly be the history in the making. Or maybe go back to your small screen and enjoy the game. Sometimes realism is better than wish fulfillment.

His portrayal of the Star Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe earned him worldwide popularity.

A graduate of the Merrimack College in Massachusetts, Day is a skilled musician too with expertise in both piano and guitar. He is also a comedian, producer and screenwriter.

Jack Black is an American actor and musician. He began his acting career with a TV commercial for a video game, at the age of 13. Soon, he went on playing a variety of roles on shows like Picket Fences, The X- Files and The Golden Palace before landing major roles in mainstream cinema. He gained worldwide recognition, critical acclaim and several awards for his performances in films like High Fidelity, Nacho Libre, Shallow Hal, Gulliver’s Travels and the 2005 remake of King Kong. He voiced the lead character in the Kung Fu Panda film series and the dummies in the TV adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps. Black is also the lead singer of  his band called Tenacious D and has appeared in several music videos too.

Keegan-Michael Kay is an American actor, comedian, writer and producer. Kay has spent six seasons as a cast member on Mad TV. In 2015, he appeared at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner next to Barack Obama as Luther, his anger translator.  He made his Broadway debut in Meteor Shower, Steve Martin’s comedy Broadway. Kay has also played roles in Parks and Creation, Fargo and Key & Peele.
