Kunal Kemmu's story is a bit clichéd but works well within the zone of the film.  Kunal Kemmu's screenplay is simplistic and peppered with hilarious dialogues and moments that keep the interest going. However, the writing falters whenever the film gets serious. Kunal Kemmu's dialogues are one of the high points. The one-liners land effectively, and a few of them will be lapped up big time by viewers. Some of the one-liners are adult in nature, which explains the film's 'A' rating.

Kunal Kemmu's direction is functional. He is a pro when it comes to humour and he proved it with MADGAON EXPRESS [2024]. The film is a bit in the zone of GO GOA GONE [2013] and a few Hollywood films where two simpletons are forced to fight the baddies. However, since it is set in Mumbai and also has a terrorism act, it works well for the Indian audiences. The circumstances under which Hardik and Bugs come into contact with Madam H are hilarious and also quite unexpected. The dinner scene involving Kareena and her father (Mark Bennington) is also very funny, while the intermission point is equally shocking.

On the flipside, the film falters in the second half once humour takes a backseat. The twist involving the villain is just about okay and makes VIBE feel somewhat routine. The makers raise intriguing questions about how a suspicious individual could change her identity and gain access to a prominent tech company, whether an insider was involved, and whether there is a leak within the team. However, the film conveniently leaves these intriguing threads unresolved, making one wonder why they were introduced in the first place. Moreover, the film’s title and overall tone are such that it is likely to appeal primarily to urban audiences.
Vibe Movie Review Performances:
Kunal Kemmu is great not just as a writer-director but also as an actor. Playing such goofy roles comes naturally to him and even in VIBE, he essays it with full conviction. Many scenes turn funnier than what was written on paper because of his act. Preity G Zinta looks stunning and performance-wise, she’s first-rate. Her action scene is memorable. Sparsh Srivastava shines and ensures that he doesn’t get dominated by Kunal and Preity. He also gets to show his acting and humour prowess effectively and makes good use of it. Vanshika Dhir is not merely eye candy and has a crucial role. Performance-wise, she’s satisfactory. Dinesh Lal Yadav aka Nirahua (Bansi) and Yashpal Sharma (Rawal) are very convincing and also entertaining. Salem Kali (Abid) is just okay, while Mark Bennington leaves a mark. Rajesh Krishnan (Bug's Boss) is funny. Uorfi Javed (Chanchal Screwvala) and Aaditya Kulshreshth aka Kullu (Hardik's colleague) do well in cameo appearances.

Vibe movie music and other technical aspects:
Amit Trviedi's music is just okay. 'Raaton Mein Aana' is memorable for its whistle theme and picturization. This is followed by 'Aisi Meri Vibe', 'Rafta Rafta' and 'Sipahi Ek'. John Stewart Eduri's background score is in sync with the film’s happenings.

Kaushal Shah's cinematography is neat. Prachi Deshpande's production design is classy, while Rick Roy's costumes are glamorous. Parvez Shaikh's action and Brahm Chab's stunt design are devoid of gore and entertaining. But it could have been better. Anand Subaya and Sanjay Shrirang Ingle's editing is functional.

Vibe Movie Review Conclusion:
On the whole, VIBE works due to Kunal Kemmu’s strong command over humour, several hilarious one-liners and entertaining performances. Though the film loses steam in the second half and the villain track feels routine, it has enough madcap moments to keep viewers amused. At the box office, its urban appeal and youth-friendly humour should help it find its target audience.

Remember Dodo (Divyenndu), Pinku (Pratik Gandhi), and Ayush (Avinash Tiwari) bumping into a hippie dude in Madgaon Express? The happy-high guy now has his own story. Meet Hardik Sharma (Kunal Kemmu), who moves to Mumbai after a stint at a rehab centre in London. His childhood friend, Bhagirathi ‘Bugs’ Bhargav (Sparsh Shrivastava), is determined to help Hardik turn his life around and gets him a job in the marketing department at his company.
Things do take a turn when Hardik falls for their colleague, Kareena (Vanshika Dhir). But there’s more to her than meets the eye, and the best friends soon find themselves caught in a rigmarole that turns them into reluctant spies for an intelligence agency led by Madam H (Preity G Zinta), tasked with busting a terrorist plot.
Here’s the catch — they are the bahumulya gadhe (invaluable asses) trusted with safeguarding the nation.
Kemmu returns to direction with a comedy that also has him writing and top-lining the film, and he is in good form in all three departments. As Hardik, he rarely misses a beat with his comic timing. He is the entitled brat happily mooching off Bugs one moment, yet stupidly brave enough to try riding a motorbike into an aeroplane to save his friend.
Thankfully, this isn’t a one-man show. Sparsh Shrivastava’s more responsible and earnest Bugs is endearing and goofy in equal measure, and his chemistry with Kemmu gives the film some of its funniest moments. Yashpal Sharma and Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’, as intelligence officers, infuse their parts with just the right amount of comedy. Vanshika Dhir makes an impressive debut, while Preity G Zinta plays Madam H with aplomb. That said, her body double during some of the action sequences is painfully apparent and doesn’t quite match the actress’s physique.
Vibe is one of those films where the screenplay and sheer entertainment quotient elevate a fairly basic premise. The banter and comic set pieces are top-notch in the first half. The tonality shifts after the interval as the action takes over. The narrative becomes more convoluted and loses momentum in places as it packs in the terrorist plot, spy antics and increasingly outlandish twists. There are familiar tropes, too, including the Sipahi 1 pill that transforms Hardik into a fierce soldier and a surprise entry that saves the day during the climactic fight. Yet, despite these contrivances, the movie remains breezy and engaging enough to keep you invested. Hardik and Bugs’s training to become spies, in particular, makes for a hilarious track.
Amit Trivedi’s edgy, contemporary music fits the film’s quirky world, while John Stewart Eduri’s slick, energetic background score adds considerably to the action and comedy.
If you’re looking for a laugh riot driven by good performances and unabashed silliness, this one will match your vibe. The comedy begins even before the opening credits roll, as two voices discuss the special thanks and the seemingly endless list of partners, and keeps popping up right until the end.

What happens when two men who have no business being anywhere near a national-security operation are suddenly handed one? In Vibe, the answer is predictable: things go spectacularly wrong. But Kunal Kemmu’s second directorial venture is not really interested in making its protagonists competent. It is interested in making their incompetence entertaining. That gives Vibe its personality.

At the centre are Hardik (Kunal Kemmu) and Bugs (Sparsh Shrivastava), two friends whose lives are considerably more ordinary than the world of espionage they stumble into. Hardik is impulsive, immature and perpetually guided by his instincts; Bugs is the relatively sensible one, although his proximity to Hardik rarely allows that quality to be of much use. What begins with romance and bad decisions eventually pulls them into a larger mission involving intelligence operative Madam H (Preity Zinta).
On paper, it sounds like a familiar buddy comedy-meets-spy thriller formula. Kemmu, however, is clearly less interested in the mechanics of espionage than in the comic possibilities of dropping two chaotic men into a world that demands precision.

And that is where Vibe is at its best. The film has an anarchic quality that recalls the loose, lived-in humour of Madgaon Express, although its canvas here is considerably bigger. Kemmu finds comedy in awkward pauses, ridiculous reactions, escalating misunderstandings and characters behaving with complete conviction while making terrible decisions. Some of the funniest moments arrive not because the jokes are particularly elaborate, but because the actors understand exactly how seriously their characters should take the absurdity around them.

Kemmu is particularly comfortable playing Hardik as a lovable nuisance. He does not try to make the character smarter or more heroic than he is, and that commitment keeps the comedy grounded. Shrivastava, meanwhile, is an effective counterpoint. Bugs’ relative restraint allows the film to retain a semblance of reality even when everything around him descends into chaos. Their friendship is ultimately more engaging than the larger espionage plot because it feels like the emotional centre of the film.


Preity Zinta gets to play a different kind of comic foil. As Madam H, she brings an authority and composure that sharply contrasts with the two men she has to deal with. There is an inherent amusement in watching a highly controlled intelligence operative attempt to extract competence from a pair that seems constitutionally incapable of delivering it. Zinta plays the straight woman to the madness without becoming merely functional.
The ensemble adds to the film’s unpredictable energy, with Sharmila Tagore, Yashpal Sharma and Dinesh Lal Yadav contributing to a world that often feels deliberately larger and stranger than the story requires. Vanshika Dhir, too, makes an impression.

The film’s biggest weakness, however, is its screenplay. Vibe has enough comic ideas for several sequences, but not all of them deserve to be in the same film. The writing repeatedly piles one gag, twist or complication over another, creating the sense of a story that is constantly trying to outdo itself. Instead of allowing a funny situation to breathe, it often escalates it into something louder. That also affects the emotional stakes.

The irony is that Vibe does not need all that much plot to work. Its strongest moments come from watching Hardik and Bugs simply exist together. Whenever the film slows down enough to let their chemistry breathe, it becomes warmer and funnier. Whenever it tries too hard to make the spy story bigger, louder or more complicated, the charm starts to thin.
Still, there is something refreshing about a film that does not insist on treating espionage with reverence. Vibe is messy, occasionally overstuffed and undeniably indulgent, but it also has a distinct comic voice. It knows that its greatest asset is not the mission, the twists or even the spectacle. It is the sheer joy of watching two hopelessly unprepared friends try to survive a world that expects them to know what they are doing.

They don’t. Thankfully, that is the joke.

 It’s been a while since Bollywood attempted a full-on goofy spy saga, leaning into it with the right degree of silliness, and made it work. ‘Vibe’ is a vibe, and I’m here for it.

It’s not so much a spoof, but a goof-off, and that’s what makes all the difference. Hardik (Kunal Kemmu), whose name leads to the predictable jibe about hardness and nether male regions, which Hindi cinema writers have made much of for years, is a fool who enjoys being one. He is a slacker, and therefore a doper, but haha, inside him hides the smart coder, who only needs that one nudge to make him better.
In a smart move, Kemmu surrounds himself with real actors. Sparsh Srivastava as the straight-faced Bugs is a solid foil to the all-over-the-place Hardik, and newcomer Vanshika Dhir is a smash as the looker who hooks our hero, using a series of unlikely wiles.

We’ve seen Kemmu the eye-catching actor ever since he was a child: have never forgotten how good he was in ‘Zakhm’. This is his second directorial outing, and he makes up for his lax lapses in his debut, ‘Madgaon Express’ by keeping everything zippy. For the sequel, and I’m sure there will be one given the hook it leaves us on, just a little tip for Kemmu: if he gives the others a little more play, it will be much more fun.

As befits these kinds of films, the plot is just a device to pile up the jokes, and the film doesn’t slip up in creating this little bubble where a svelte Madam H (Preity Zinta) bosses over a bunch of spooks beavering away in ill-equipped dank rooms, helped by her two main men (Yashpal Sharma and Dinesh Lal Yadav) who nail the serio-comic tone to a nicety.
And that’s something you can say for the whole film, in which Zinta gets to loosen up a little by the time it reaches Bangkok, where some bad fellows speaking gibberish about AI and its potential evil ways (about the only time things get a bit slack) are lying in wait for our pals. In all this, movie references abound in a good-natured, in-your-face fashion: a nightclub fight sequence is very ‘Kill Bill’; red and blue pills are very ‘Matrix’ and so on; when they come up, we smile.

Psst, a veteran star shows up in a walk-on part – what are family connections for, otherwise – but Sharmila Tagore can be a great comedienne too. I demand a larger part for her next time around.

Meanwhile, I laughed out loud in many places.

What happens when two nonchalant, useless but tech-savvy boys find themselves in an unexpected situation, and those who cannot even save themselves from mosquitoes suddenly have the responsibility of saving an entire nation from a supposed terror attack? This pretty much summarises the plot of Kunal Kemmu’s VIBE, written and directed by him, and starring him alongside Sparsh Shrivastav, Preity Zinta and Vanshika Dhir.
Kunal Kemmu is making the kind of cinema we did not know we needed. Spy thrillers are the hottest-selling genre right now, but with everyday work pressure and 10,000 different tensions in mind, sometimes you don’t want people fighting, bomb attacks, gore and over-the-top action. After watching VIBE, one can easily say that not Pathaan or Tiger, but ‘bahumuliya gadhas’ (important donkeys) are what Bollywood desperately needs right now. The film doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s exactly where its charm lies.

Performances
Kunal Kemmu plays multiple roles in this film: an actor, director and writer, and he aced every role with utmost sensitivity. As a writer, Kunal does situational comedy at its peak. He knows exactly how to pull laughs, and in making a comedy-drama, he doesn’t forget to give a positive message. Kemmu made sure to give an anti-terror message while keeping the sensitivity of the topic in mind. He manages to put forth a strong point: ‘Terror attack dharm ke naam par lage par hota against business hai.’

Kunal, as a director, outshines many filmmakers who have been making comedy for ages now. He understands when to let a joke breathe and when to move the story forward without making the humour feel forced. And as an actor, he has never disappointed before, and it’s pretty safe to say that he doesn’t disappoint here either.
Sparsh Shrivastav gives an equally important and convincing performance as Bugs, Kunal’s only friend, who is like a brother to him. Sparsh, with his innocence and comic timing, proves that he can ace any role with ease and conviction. His chemistry with Kunal is one of the film’s highlights.

While Preity Zinta is one of the film’s biggest selling points, her performance leaves a sense of disappointment at times. Her hiatus from films possibly impacted her performance. She looks a little out of touch in certain scenes, and her dialogue delivery and accent sometimes become bothersome.

Vanshika Dhir is the surprise package no one saw coming. The debutant actress leaves a strong mark, and you keep on thinking about her even after the movie ends. She, as Kareena, will be your biggest takeaway from the film. You will enjoy her performance and will laugh and may tear up a bit with her.
Kunal Kemmu using popular references in the film should be your reason to go and watch it. Kemmu literally placed a bag with “Doomsday" written on it just before their life starts to go south. He brings a dialogue about ‘Huma Qureshi from Gangs of Wasseypur’, making the most serious conversation into a laugh riot. Apart from that, the background score and the songs actually make you groove, and how.
Final Verdict
If you aren’t watching Kunal Kemmu’s movies to laugh, then what are you even doing? Call your friends, book your ticket, grab popcorn (or maybe leave it if it’s very expensive) and go experience a full-blown laughter riot in theatres. It’s a VIBE.
