NEW WRITING PODCASTS

----- ----- ----- ----- ----- -----

This is a great place to check out the latest in Indian theatre writing!!

This month's podcast features MUNSHI PREMCHAND.

Written by: Yashwant Shekhawat

Based on Shivrani Devi’s Memoir “Premchand Ghar Mein”

Hindi | Duration - 90 mins

Synopsis of the Play:

“The legendary writer was mine, and I, his. Where there is intimacy, there is no place for greatness, because the relationship is bigger than the legend. I was blinded by our intimacy, and I dominated him. And he was happy to be dominated. He came to me as my husband, how could I revere him? If I did I would worship him with flowers and paan, but instead that’s how he worshipped me. He would fan me when I couldn’t sleep, he’d run errands for me … you see, love and reverence cannot exist together.”

So wrote Munshi Premchand’s wife, Shivrani, in her famous autobiography, Munshi Premchand Ghar Me, a rare insight into the private world of the legendary writer. Yashwant Shekhawat uses the autobiography as the base for a play which illuminates little known nuances about Premchand the man, and the unusual relationship he shared with his wife Shivrani, herself a writer of repute.
