Hindi cinema has been a breeding ground for fusion music for over 80 years. Desi music makers have infused global genres and their elements with their homemade melodies and have served wholesome fare to the applause of generations. RC Boral, Anil Biswas, Naushad, C. Ramchandra, Shankar Jaikishan, Salil Chowdhury and Ilayaraja, amongst others are some of the torchbearers of this brigade.

Another such name is RD Burman. This maverick composer has been the most misunderstood music director of all time and has often been prudishly reprimanded for corrupting young minds and spoiling the great Indian musical culture.

A departure from mainstream and predictable film songs of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, his music is highly experimental and open-minded. His funky, energetic, and novel tracks like Aaja Aaja Main Hun Pyaar Tera, Dum Maaro Dum, Duniya Mein Logon Ko and Piya Tu Ab To Aaja created, and continue to create storm; just as his soulful outpourings in Raina Beeti Jaaye, Chingari Koi Bhadke and Rimjhim Gire Saawan.

RD was consciously and hungrily blending established and emerging cultures of global rhythm and melody. He was particularly fascinated by Jazz, Blues, and Latin music genres and abundantly blended them into his creative outputs.
