About the Event

Please note that this program will be streamed live from the G5A Black Box.

19:30 | Live from the G5A Black Box | 45-60 minutes

This solo presents "Gharwali" by Ismat Chughtai, directed and performed by Naseeruddin Shah, one of the three pieces collectively presented by Motley since 2001 as the production “Ismat Apa Ke Naam”, which is an enactment of the stories as solo performances by three different actors. This saucy satire on the institution of marriage, determinedly tongue-in-cheek and bordering on the risqué, despite being written in the 1940s, contains more than a grain of relevance to the modern day man-woman equation.

Costumes: Ratna Pathak Shah

Lights: Hidayat Sami

Music: Vishal Bhardwaj

Produced by Jairaj Patil

Through solos, we want to highlight that unique relationship with the self, the instrument, the space, and the audiences; how the solo fills the space, both internal and external.
