Vivek Soni's story touches upon the complexities of modern-day relationships. Tushar Paranjape and Vivek Soni's screenplay (additional screenplay by Akshat Ghildial) is captivating, though it stagnates at some places. Akshat Ghildial, Tushar Paranjape and Vivek Soni's dialogues are appropriate. Often, in such films, the one-liners can get corny, but that's not the case here.

Vivek Soni's direction is lovely and creative. He's known to enhance the impact with his stylish and novel narrative, which was also seen in his last film, AAP JAISA KOI [2025]. In CHAND MERA DIL as well, he has executed some scenes in a novel fashion. A particular shot involving Aarav and Chand twinning in college, with the former following the latter, is quite imaginative. The film offers a lot more than the trailer in terms of story. Hence, viewers will be surprised with certain developments that take place very early into the film. The intermission point is dramatic. Post-interval, the scene where the families meet is terrific. Vivek excels big time in ensuring that viewers could feel the pain of the principal characters.

On the flipside, the family track is weak and underutilized. A lot happens in the lives of Aarav and Chand and yet, they don’t make it a point to establish contact with each other. They do try, but by then, it’s too late. Moreover, the scene where Aarav’s parents discover the truth in the first half seems to have been abruptly cut. The confrontation scene with the coaching student also seems forced. These and a few other scenes slow down the narrative. Lastly, though the ending is sweet, it is also predictable.
Chand Mera Dil Movie Review Performances:
Lakshya delivers a stupendous performance. His dialogue delivery is first rate but watch out for him in scenes where he has no dialogues. The way he expresses his sadness through his expressions is seen to be believed. Ananya Panday proves that she has evolved. This is a very challenging part but she handles it with ease. Paresh Pahuja (Kevin) lends able support. Manish Chaudhari (Aarav’s father), Irawati Harshe Mayadev (Aarav’s mother) and Charu Shankar (Chandni’s mother) lend able support but are let down by writing. The same applies to Atul Kumar (Principal). Akhil Kaimal (Aarav's male friend), Manik Papneja (Aarav's male friend), Vidushi Kaul (Aarav's sister) and Aastha Singh (Jyotsna).
Chand Mera Dil Movie Review Conclusion:
On the whole, CHAND MERA DIL is a fine romantic saga that works due to its subject, stylish execution, performances and, more importantly, because it is relatable and highlights the challenges faced by young couples today. At the box office, it is all set for a decent start, thanks to the discounted ticket offer. With positive word of mouth, it has the potential to leave a mark at the box office. The absence of competition for the next two weeks will also prove handy

Director Vivek Soni’s movie begins as a breezy campus romance, with Aarav twinning with Chandni to get her to notice him, sneaking into hostel rooms, and sharing other stolen moments. However, it soon turns into a contemporary romantic and domestic drama as they transition to married life after an unplanned pregnancy. The story then pivots to portray financial strain, stalled dreams, exhaustion, and resentment as the couple is forced to mature too quickly.
The first half effectively depicts a realistic take on urban romance and early parenthood. The couple’s journey from passionate young lovers to two people navigating domestic life, and the toll it takes on their personalities and careers, will resonate with viewers. Their struggle feels convincing because they are pushed into adulthood at a stage when they should have been focusing on themselves and their ambitions.
Written by Soni, Tushar Paranjpe, and Akshat Ghildial, the movie does not glamorise early marriage or parenthood, making the narrative believable. It subtly captures postpartum physical, mental, and emotional upheaval in women’s lives, when Chandni confesses to her friend about breaking down for no reason, and has a confrontation with Aarav. It also addresses the pressure on men to provide, as Aarav takes it upon himself to support Chandni and their newborn daughter, while refusing to let his wife lend a helping hand.
Emotionally charged scenes build the tension well, especially when Aarav and Chandni’s families meet at a restaurant on their first wedding anniversary, just when the couple has decided to part ways.
Though the script and screenplay remain taut in the first half, the narrative loses steam post-interval. The second act suffers from pacing issues, and melodrama takes over. Introducing Chandni’s colleague Kevin as part of a love triangle, and Aarav spending time with Kaavya, slows down the story.
Debojeet Ray’s cinematography deserves mention, as the tonality shifts from vibrant to more moody and intense when the drama heightens. Sachin-Jigar’s compositions are well-placed and complement the narrative throughout, including memorable songs such as the title track, the pumped-up Khasiyat, and the intense Phir Ajnabi.
Lakshya shines as the romantic hero, while also delivering Aarav’s confusion, insecurity, resentment, regret, and redemption powerfully. Ananya Panday shows noticeable growth as a performer and handles the emotionally demanding scenes with restraint instead of melodrama, especially when Chandni places dignity above love. The duo also has great on-screen chemistry and complements each other’s raw emotions.
Chand Mera Dil is not a typical love story. While the film occasionally loses grip due to uneven pacing, it still offers a mature take on contemporary relationships and the harsh reality of growing together.

Their initial journey has everything a classic romantic film should have—late-night talks, a rebellious resolve to take on the world, and a firm belief that simply being together is enough to win every battle in life. However, the story takes a serious turn when the glamour of college is left behind and the difficult responsibilities of adulthood knock on their doors. As Aarav enters professional life, the pressures of his career and the expectations of society and family begin to break him down. This emotional frustration gradually changes his behavior and his attitude towards Chandni. Chandni, on the other hand, is not an ordinary girl. She has deep, unresolved childhood wounds and a domestic trauma that has profoundly impacted her thinking and perspective on relationships. The calm and understated way in which Lakshya
portrays the difficult, gray-shaded character of Aarav establishes him as one of the most promising actors of this new generation. There are several close-ups throughout the film where Lakshya doesn't speak a single line. However, his large, expressive eyes convey the despair of not being able to make a career, the fear of losing Chandni, and the simmering anger so powerfully that the audience is unable to take their eyes off the screen. Ananya Panday emerges as the film's biggest turning point and surprise package. As Chandni, Ananya delivers the most mature and sensitive performance of her career to date. Completely shattering her former glamorous image, she convincingly portrays the breakdown of a woman struggling with depression. In the film's climax and emotional scenes, when her patience breaks, her tears are devoid of melodrama or force. Instead, they feel like a silent scream that pierces the audience's heart. #ChandMeraDil may come across as a typical love story since the makers haven't revealed much in the promotional material... And while the film does appear to follow a familiar path in the first 30 minutes, it shifts gears soon after and takes you completely by surprise.

Director Vivek Soni packs warmth, tenderness, and relatable moments into the narrative, but it's the emotional quotient that elevates the film further... In fact, he ensures the tension builds gradually, never making it feel rushed.

A particular sequence set at a plush restaurant in the second half takes the conflict to an altogether new level... The director's storytelling prowess comes to the fore brilliantly in this standout sequence.

The only stumbling block is the second half, which feels stretched at places and could've been tighter... In fact, the conflict loses some steam before the finale regains momentum.

#ChandMeraDil rests on the able shoulders of its lead pair... #Lakshya catches you completely off guard – he is fantastic... You walk in carrying the image of the action hero from #Kill, but walk out impressed by an actor who excels in emotional moments... He handles the emotional beats exceptionally well.

#AnanyaPanday continues to grow with every film... After #KesariChapter2, this is yet another performance that will take people by surprise... She delivers a restrained and mature act.

#PareshPahuja makes an impact despite limited screen time.

The soundtrack is a highlight and blends seamlessly with the narrative... The title track stands out the most... The dialogues are well-written and, at places, make you reflect on real-life emotions and relationships.

⭐ Final word? A romantic entertainer that should connect strongly with its target audience – the youth as well as families.

The fresh pairing, the direction, the colour palette used on screen, the styling, the attention to detail, and the subtleness, everything elevates the film beautifully. I loved the direction because every frame narrated a story alongside the actors. Interestingly, the flaw within the story becomes the hero of the film; you’ll understand that once you watch it. And if it’s a Karan Johar project, how can one not love the music? Every song deserves a place in your favorites’ playlist.
Performances:

Ananya Panday has truly matured as an actor and has certainly silenced those who questioned her credibility. She makes sure the audience feels every emotion her character goes through.

Lakshya is the show-stealer. Every time he had a panic attack on screen, my heart raced faster and I struggled to breathe. There were scenes that could have easily gone overdramatic if not performed in the right proportion, but he handled them brilliantly. He doesn’t act only through his expressions; he acts with every cell in his body.

Final Verdict:

If your heart has ever bled in love, this one’s for you. As a woman, I understood Chandni, but my heart couldn't stop empathising with Aarav. Love certainly blurs your vision - from one hopeless romantic to another.

A little bit of Salaam Namaste here, a little bit of Shaadi Ke Side Effects there, and almost a tinge of Abhimaan is what describes or could describe Vivek Soni’s new film Chand Mera Dil, starring Lakshya and Ananya Panday. There have been no interviews or promotions, the trailer didn’t give away much either. The makers wanted to keep the narrative a surprise, or maybe shock. It isn’t too hatke however. Right from the time when we first see our central characters- Aarav and Chandni, a cold distance is apparent. They are awkwardly talking to each other on a video call and quickly run out of words. A flashback is inevitable. How a love story almost went kaput. How everything was hunky dory before it all turned into horror.

The film follows Aarav and Chandni, two college students who fall deeply in love at the age of 21. Their relationship begins with the innocence and intensity of young love filled with dreams rebellion and the belief that love alone can solve everything. But adulthood arrives much sooner than expected. The boy mercifully doesn’t stalk the girl because their hostel blocks are right opposite each other. He knows what dress she wears everyday to college and twins repeatedly until he’s noticed by her. She obviously does. She then becomes a frequent visitor to his hostel room. They both are unabashed and nonchalant about their blooming rendezvous. Where Chand Mera Dil falters in the editing, it compensates by the sincerity of the lead performances.
Lakshya delivers a complex performance as Aarav. There is a quiet intensity in his performance and his expressive eyes communicate emotions even in silence. Whether portraying frustration helplessness or love he brings a rawness that keeps the character deeply believable. Ananya Panday surprises with one of her most emotionally layered performances as Chandni. She captures the fragility strength and emotional damage of the character with restraint and sincerity. Her breakdown moments never feel performative and her chemistry with Lakshya works strongly in the film’s favour.
The dialogues deserve special mention for their emotional weight and realism. Several moments hit hard because they feel painfully personal rather than cinematic. Vivek Soni’s writing keeps the audience emotionally invested while constantly leaving you uncertain about where the story is headed.
Shreya Ghoshal's voice becomes an emotion in itself throughout the film. Her rendition of Chand Mera Dil during the climax elevates the emotional impact tremendously and lands exactly where it is meant to. The music never overpowers the narrative instead becoming an extension of the characters’ emotional state. The film occasionally feels emotionally heavy in parts and could have benefited from slightly tighter pacing in the second half.
