Aditya Dhar's story is well-researched and has enough entertainment and drama. Aditya Dhar's screenplay (additional screenplay by Shivkumar V Panicker, Ojas Gautam) is captivating from start to finish. Hence, one doesn’t get bored despite the lengthy runtime. However, a few small portions are dry. Aditya Dhar's dialogues add to the drama and humour. Sadly, several abuses are muted, and it breaks the flow of the narrative.

Aditya Dhar's direction is splendid. His biggest strength is his conviction and his risk-taking ability. In the first part, DHURANDHAR [2025], he had mesmerized the audience with the world of Lyari. But the sequel takes the audience away from that world. Instead, the flashback of Jaskirat takes centre stage. The 2009 portions begin almost 30-40 minutes later. Thankfully, the risk pays off as the opening chapter (called ‘A Burnt Memory’) is captivating and also moving. The Karachi portions also have a charm and this time, the stakes are higher for Hamza as he penetrates deeper. Moreover, there are references to real-life people and incidents and it further adds to the appeal. The intermission point is a shocker. A few scenes that stand out are Uzair killing Arshad Pappu, the madness just after the interval, Yalina confronting Hamza, the highway madness, Ajay getting a video call etc. Aditya reserves the best for the finale action and it's sure to be loved. The film ends on a moving and also unexpected and justified note.

On the flipside, despite the best efforts of Aditya Dhar, a few scenes do feel stretched. The second chapter (named ‘Lucifer’) is the least exciting part of the film. A few disturbing scenes seem to be needlessly added. Lastly, the soundtrack is not as exciting this time.
Ranveer Singh got overshadowed a bit in DHURANDHAR. Here, he gets to shine and he makes great use of the opportunity. The actor has delivered several memorable performances in the past, but this act is something else. The way he has especially performed in the emotional scenes is soul-wrenching. Easily, his most accomplished performance! Arjun Rampal comes next. He continues with his menacing act from the first part; his scenes with his father especially, are memorable. Sanjay Dutt has longer screen time in this film and he is dependable as expected. R Madhavan is superb to say the least. Rakesh Bedi was great in the first part and here, he’s even better. Sara Arjun comparatively gets lesser scope. Nevertheless, she’s the soul of the film and performance wise, she’s superb. Danish Pandor lends able support, while Saumya Tandon (Ulfat) has a blink-and-miss appearance this time. Ashwin Dhar, Manav Gohil (Sushant Bansal), Bimal Oberoi (Shirani), Aditya Uppal (ASP Omar Haider), Ankit Sagar (Javed Khanani), Vivek Sinha (Zahoor Mistry), Mashhoor Amrohi (Nawab Shafiq), Madhurjeet Sarghi (Prabhneet Singh) and others also deliver fine performances. Danish Iqbal (Bade Sahab) and Salim Sidiqui (Atif Ahmed) leave a huge mark. Yami Gautam Dhar (Shazia Bano) has a massy cameo.
Shashwat Sachdev's music may not be as legendary as the first part, but it has a charm and is well incorporated. 'Aari Aari' is the best of the lot, followed by 'Jaan Se Guzarte Hain'. 'Destiny - Mann Atkeya' is poignant, while 'Main Aur Tu' and 'Jaiye Sajana' manage to register. 'Phir Se', sung by Arijit Singh, is touching. Shashwat Sachdev's background score exhilarates the impact.

Vikash Nowlakha's cinematography is breathtaking. Aejaz Gulab, Sea Young Oh, Yannick Ben and Ramazan Bulut's action is gorier than the first part. Smriti Chauhan's costumes are authentic. Saini S Johray's production design (additional production design by Rupin Suchak) is realistic and yet classy. Envision VFX, Philm CGI, Redefine, R2 VFX's VFX is appropriate. Shivkumar V Panicker's editing is engaging though the film could have been shorter.

On the whole, DHURANDHAR THE REVENGE lives up to its colossal hype and emerges as a long yet thoroughly entertaining and satisfying cinematic ride. The action set pieces and dramatic moments pack a solid punch, the twists and turns catch you off guard, and this time, the film also leaves a strong emotional impact. The performances are first-rate, with Ranveer Singh delivering what can easily be termed the finest act of his career. At the box office, the film has already opened to record-breaking numbers and looks all set to surpass the extraordinary collections of its predecessor to emerge as the highest-grossing film of all time.

The year’s most anticipated sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, with a massive runtime of 3 hours and 49 minutes (15 minutes longer than the prequel), kicks off in sync with its predecessor. The film opens with a jaw-dropping action sequence that spirals into a brutal bloodbath. Struck by a personal tragedy, Jaskirat (Ranveer Singh), an Indian army trainee, is forced to embrace his new identity. The first half is riveting and fast-paced. It wastes no time, seamlessly shifting from past to present as Hamza rises to rule Lyari and takes the fight straight to the terrorists’ stronghold.
Dhurandhar (first part) revolutionised Indian filmmaking with its distinctive storytelling style. Each character was given equal significance, which is rare in Bollywood. It wasn't a one-man show. Shashwat Sachdev’s pulsating score, sharply contrasted with the protagonist’s quiet resolve, fuelled the narrative. The Karachi-set mafia drama stood out for its immersive world-building and unabashed action set pieces, using barbaric violence as a cinematic language. The mafia drama had an element of mystery and exuded a relaxed yet striking sense of style and swagger, whether it was Akshaye Khanna’s slow-mo walk as Rehman Dakait, dressed in all black or Ranveer Singh’s banger entry into Lyari set to the powerful beats of “Aandhi ban ke aaya hoon… Mera hausla bhi aiyash hai, na toh karvaan ki talaash hai.” Moments like these became iconic.
Elevating a sequel with the same story and the same resources is a tall order, and the film struggles under the weight. It is gripping but overstuffed, thrilling yet undeniably overstretched and repetitive. The first half captivates so immensely that you won’t even blink but the latter half drifts aimlessly, sapping your energy.
Unlike its predecessor, which explored understated power and restraint to build a riveting world of gang wars and patriotism, the sequel is one-dimensional and wears its intentions on its sleeve. Masks come off, and the film leans towards jingoism and overt political bias, justifying measures like demonetisation. Subtle manipulation in storytelling is a given, but here it becomes conspicuous, too convenient, gradually turning the film into an ambitious mouthpiece for those in power. It delivers spectacle more than nuance. The action sequences are well-choreographed but the sound design feels slightly off in some scenes, arriving a beat before the action.
The absence of Akshaye Khanna leaves the sequel without a formidable nemesis, diluting its impact. The story misses the tension and unpredictability that the powerful parallel leads once provided. Ranveer Singh steps into the spotlight solo this time as the stoic, lethal force once again sporting a hippy leather jacket, sunglasses, and voluminous hair (despite the stress). He is remarkable both as a ruthless killing machine and a broken man, yet it is in his quieter, introspective moments that he truly shines, particularly in an emotional scene with Sara Arjun, who delivers a convincing performance herself. Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal are in top form once again, and Rakesh Bedi captivates in his fascinating role, relishing every shade of his character’s disloyalty. Danish Pandor as Uzair deserved more screen space.
Dhurandhar 2 cranks up the volume, violence, and ambition. It’s a well-crafted, engaging saga that, unfortunately, doesn’t know when to stop. Gripping yet overstuffed, it’s a relentless action extravaganza teetering on excess, best enjoyed as unrestrained work of fiction.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge expands, sharpens, and builds on its predecessor. What the first film hinted at, this one executes with intent: more violence, more scale, more emotional rupture, and a far deeper obsession with revenge.

Aditya Dhar hands the film almost entirely to Ranveer Singh's Hamza Ali Mazari, and makes a visibly decisive choice. This is no longer just a story about geopolitics or espionage; it becomes a character study disguised as a war film. Hamza's journey, from Jaskirat Singh Rangi, an idealistic young soldier from Punjab, to Lyari's feared king, and back to being India's Jassi, forms the emotional strength of the film. It is this oscillation between identities that gives the film its rare, unsettling depth.
Dhar pushes his own cinematic vocabulary further here. If the first film was about infiltration, this one is about annihilation - systematic, relentless, almost clinical. Scene by scene, the film dissects the machinery of terror, with Hamza at its centre, driving through every nerve that connects Pakistan's terror networks to India. It is aggressive storytelling, but it never loses control.
The narrative picks up seamlessly from where the first part ends, unfolding across six chapters. Each chapter deepens Hamza. None of it softens him, but hardens his vulnerabilities into weapons. As he grows, so does the film's rage. There is a constant, simmering assertion: that the idea of India being weak is not just challenged, but obliterated.

Ranveer Singh is extraordinary. If Lootera (2013) revealed his restraint, Dhurandhar: The Revenge unleashes his excess, and he makes it work. His is the performance of force, not just of craft alone. His stillness as Jaskirat seems haunting, while his eruption as Hamza is almost mythic in its scale. There's a certain abandon here - reckless, consuming - that elevates the film. Singh takes ownership of the film and delivers his most passionate, most skilled, most powerful performance so far.


The film constantly travels between borders - geographically and politically. It names names, draws from real events, and places its fiction dangerously close to reality. From gang wars in Pakistan to India's internal shifts, from references to demonetisation to the Babri Masjid verdict, Dhar stitches together a world that is informed, even when it borders on speculative. There are moments where you wonder if he really knows more than he reveals. As if he has some far greater intel about the nation's gravitas, its workings and politics than the rest of the filmmakers of this age. And that tension works in the film's favour.

What stands out is how the film wears its politics. It doesn't hide, dilute, or soften its gaze. There are clear ideological markers, unmistakable references like the unstoppable "chaiwallah" and a certain "imaandar" ruler of Uttar Pradesh, even moments of overt admiration for power structures, but that doesn't let the narrative collapse under that weight. It remains engaging because Dhar never lets the messaging overpower the storytelling.
Technically, the film is remarkably assured. Dhar moves between extreme close-ups and sweeping top-angle shots within the same sequence with an ease that feels almost invisible. What could have been stylistic excess becomes grammar here. The editing is tight despite the film's length, and the sound design, especially the background score, sustains the film's pulse.

Music plays a crucial role. Tracks like Tamma Tamma Loge (Thanedaar, 1990) and Aari Aari (Bombay Rockers, 2003) work like nostalgic insertions, adding more depth, making the narrative look more rusty, more fun. Without them, the film would risk becoming too heavy, too consuming. With them, it is effective.

And then comes the final act.

Dhar saves his most audacious move for the end. The surprise you think the film has been building towards turns out to be something else entirely. It pulls the ground from under you. This is where Dhar reveals his sharpest instinct: he knows exactly when to hold back, when to provoke, and when to demand applause. He understands his audience, but more importantly, he understands the moment the country is in.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge is not subtle cinema. It is loud, unapologetic, and absolutely certain of itself. But within that loudness lies design, control, and a clear cinematic voice. It speaks of a "new India," but more significantly, it attempts to shape what "new Hindi cinema" can look like: fearless, excessive, and unwilling to explain itself.

This is a film that doesn't ask for your agreement. It demands your attention. And just when you think you have grasped it, it leaves you with a warning, almost a dare: And trust us, you are still not ready for this.

The last time a film release felt like a festival in India was three years ago when Shah Rukh Khan was returning to the big screen with Pathaan. In 2026, it's the same with Dhurandhar 2, fronted by Ranveer Singh.

If Dhurandhar lit your fuse, Dhurandhar 2 will blow your mind with two times the fury, action, and violence. The second part of the Aditya Dhar directorial is an out-and-out Ranveer Singh show that brings pataakhe to Pakistan's terror network party and shreds it to pieces, figuratively and literally.

From the first frame, we are shown that this time it's the story of Jaskirat Singh Rangi that takes front and centre. We know why it's Dhurandhar: The Revenge. The year is 2002 and it is personal for Jaskirat.

Jaskirat, the 21-year-old young man from Pathankot who was training to become a third generation Indian Army officer from his family, goes off the rails after his father is killed and sisters are gangraped over a petty land dispute.
He is put on a death row but is abducted by R Madhavan's Ajay Sanyal and his trusted aide Sushant Bansal (Manav Gohil) to be inducted as part of Operation Dhurandhar. After some quid pro quo, Jaskirat accepts the offer, and over the years, transforms into Hamza Ali Mazari.

Ajay Sanyal asks Jaskirat if he knows the meaning of his new name, he does. It means 'sher', Ajay Sanyal says 'babbar sher', his nickname for his prized asset. Ranveer Singh looks the part and delivers a lion-like majestic acting masterclass as a growling Hamza takes down Pakistan's terror network in Karachi and across the country, one terrorist after another.

If one has to sum up the actor's performance in the Dhurandhar franchise in one word, it is range. If he makes you feel empathy for his character in an emotional scene, he makes you squirm in your seat when he is hacking the hell out of his adversaries.

If he is tender with his family, he is insanely brutal with the terror mongers he has pledged to eliminate. In a key (almost Biblical) scene, Ranveer Singh laughs maniacally as Hamza who is chained and wounded, his long hair dishevelled. It is one of the most gooseflesh-raising scenes delivered by the actor.

Dhurandhar 2 also pretty much answers all those questions that every Dhurandhar fan had, and most of those answers come as a great pay-off. The film, however, does not end on a crescendo like the first part did and that's the feeling that is missed.

The blurring of the reel and real continues in Dhurandhar 2 and like part one, take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy the flourish of "What if were true?" If Hamza handed over a gun to Ajmal Kasab before the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in Dhurandhar, he meets many Pakistani politicians and terrorists: alive, dead and 'in hiding' in part two. We finally get to know who Bade Sahab is and his introduction is a highlight which will go viral this way or that way.

Besides terror funding and fake currency racket through Atif Ahmed (based on UP gangster Atiq Ahmed) and Yakub Ansari via Nepal, Dhurandhar 2 also makes commentary on the drug menace in Punjab and pro-Khalistani forces in India that are allegedly in cahoots with Pakistan to destroy India from within.
Not just Jaskirat/Hamza, Madhavan's Ajay Sanyal also gets his revenge - multifold. Madhavan gets to play the dual role of the 'Charioteer of Karma' and the 'Godfather' who pulls the strings from behind the curtains, and watches as Pakistan is razed to the ground. He is one of those dependable performers who doesn't miss a beat.  

Sara Arjun gets to play a fuller arc this time as Yalina even though her screen time is limited. Her eyes speak volumes no matter what the scene's tone is. Gaurav Gera's Aalam Bhai is a star in his own right and we finally get to know where he comes from in a pivotal scene, a question that remained unanswered in Dhurandhar in Butt sahab's tea shop. Rakesh Bedi is a delight to watch on screen. Full stop. 

Danish Pandor as Uzair Baloch is effective and fits the narrative just as intended by Aditya Dhar. Also, there was a reason why the trailer of Dhurandhar 2 started with Kandahar hijacker Zahoor Mistry's "Hindu badi hee darpok qaum hai" dialogue. You'll find out why.
In terms of music, Hamza gets his own FA9LA moment and just like that, 90s sensation, Algerian singer Khaled comes back in currency with his Arabic chartbuster Didi.

Dhurandhar 2 is musically more diverse than part one: it has a recreation of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's qawwali Dil Pe Zakham Khate Hain, Kishore Kumar's Kabhi Bekasi Ne Maara from Alag Alag, and Boney M's Rasputin, among several other gems across decades.

Yes, Yami Gautam is very much a part of Dhurandhar 2. In fact, there is a Haq connect in the film. We may or may never find out that she was the same RAW agent Pallavi Sharma from Uri: The Surgical Strike. In Dhurandhar 2, we'll find another Uri: The Surgical Strike connection. Spoiler: It's not Vicky Kaushal, but the reveal is pretty epic.

Dhurandhar 2 must be watched for all the answers you are seeking from the first film and for Ranveer Singh.

Three months after Dhurandhar created havoc at the box office, the sequel to Ranveer Singh’s starrer is finally out. Dhurandhar: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar, is now in theatres. The film picks up right where the first installment left off. It follows the events in Lyari after Rehman Dakait’s death and revolves around a high-stakes battle involving India’s national security, undercover operations and a powerful network of enemies in Pakistan. As Hamza, played by Ranveer Singh, dives deeper into the mission, he uncovers shocking truths and faces dangerous adversaries.

To begin with, the much-anticipated sequel delivers exactly what it promises — action at its absolute best. Aditya Dhar clearly raises the bar, outdoing his own work from the original Dhurandhar with a far more ambitious and visually striking approach. The scale of action is bigger, bolder and more intense than what audiences are used to seeing in Bollywood.
What truly stands out is the raw and unapologetic depiction of violence. Bollywood has rarely ventured into such gritty territory and while some viewers may find certain sequences gory, they undeniably leave a chilling impact. It should also be noted that the brutality in the movie is not just to add a shock value, but to also add weight to the narrative.

But it is not just the action that keeps audiences hooked. In Dhurandhar 2, the storytelling emerges as an equally powerful driving force. The film scores high on narrative depth, with a series of twists that make the plot consistently gripping. Just when you think you have it figured out, the story takes an unexpected turn, leaving you both surprised and intrigued.

These moments of shock add substantial weight to the film’s overall arc. Each twist enhances the tension and keeps viewers emotionally invested. Moreover, these twists also highlight how strong, intelligent writing can elevate a film’s execution.
But having said that, the film could have benefitted from tighter editing. While certain portions in the first half of the film feel stretched, there are sequences in the second half which look a little forced. Though they have been added to support the political narrative of the movie, these could have been easily omitted.

As far as performances are concerned, the soul of Dhurandhar 2 lies firmly with Ranveer Singh, who delivers an absolutely outstanding act. He is undeniably the star of the film, carrying the narrative on his shoulders with remarkable ease and conviction. From the very first scene, Ranveer Singh commands attention with an intense screen presence that is hard to look away from.

What makes his performance truly compelling is his ability to seamlessly transition between high-octane action and deeply emotional moments. Whether he is engaged in fierce combat sequences or portraying vulnerability and inner conflict, Singh brings a level of authenticity that elevates every scene he is part of. One must not hesitate in saying that his energy, commitment and sheer charisma make his performance one of the film’s biggest highlights. Overall, Ranveer Singh is, without a doubt, a delight to watch in Dhurandhar: The Revenge.


It is also worth noting that Aditya Dhar has beautifully reflected Akshay Khanna’s Rehman Dakait in Ranveer Singh’s Hamza. Several of Singh’s scenes in the movie look like a reflection of Khanna from the film’s first part. It has been beautifully done and shows how Dhar, as a director, paid attention to minute details while working on the project. Pat on his back!

But one expected a little more when it comes to Ranveer Singh’s scenes with Sara Arjun, who plays his wife in the movie. The subplot involving Hamza and Alina’s love story also falls flat, lacking depth and emotional connection. Once again, Sara is given very limited screen time, which feels like a missed opportunity considering how her character could have deeply impacted the story.

Adding a refreshing layer to the film, once again, is veteran actor Rakesh Bedi. He shines in the movie with his comic timing. His performance provides much-needed relief amid the otherwise intense storyline.
R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt and Danish Pandor also play their respective parts with utmost perfection.

SPILER ALERT! Apart from the leading cast, one special appearance in the movie for which everyone was waiting for, was that of Yami Gautam. But honestly, there is nothing special about this appearance. Watch the movie to know more about this and you’ll be disappointed.

How can one talk about Dhurandhar forget about its music? The music plays a surprisingly effective role in enhancing the film’s overall impact. Instead of relying solely on an original soundtrack, Aditya Dhar cleverly incorporates a mix of old, familiar songs that are aptly placed within the narrative. One of the standout moments is the use of Rasputin, which adds a unique, almost quirky energy to a key sequence. Its placement feels fresh and elevates the scene, making it instantly memorable.

Overall, despite its scale and ambition, Dhurandhar 2 feels slightly weaker in comparison to the original film, which was released in December 2025. While the sequel amps up action and visual spectacle, it misses the tighter storytelling that made the first film a blockbuster. Certain subplots, like the underdeveloped romance and limited use of key characters, dilute its impact. The pacing also feels uneven, with portions that could have been skipped. Even some thematic elements appear forced, making the narrative less organic. As a result, despite its highs, the sequel doesn’t quite match the original’s overall effectiveness.

Director #AdityaDhar returns with a vision that is bigger, sharper and far more ambitious... While the first part laid the foundation, #DhurandharTheRevenge elevates the narrative to an entirely new level.

What truly makes #DhurandharTheRevenge stand out is its emotional core... Beneath the spectacle lies a powerful story of courage, resilience, revenge and justice – elements that linger long after the screening ends.

The screenplay is the film's backbone – tightly written, fast-paced and loaded with goosebumps-inducing moments... Just when you feel the film has reached its peak, it raises the bar yet again.
