Yunus Sajawal's story is in the zone of typical David Dhawan films. Yunus Sajawal's screenplay is peppered with madening and crazy moments that would be lapped up by the target audience, though it could have been better in some places. Farhad Samji's dialogues don't land in the first half but are quite funny in the post-interval portions.

David Dhawan's direction is commercial and vibrant. Like his previous films, logic takes a backseat here as well. His idea is that viewers should sit back, relax and have a gala time. Thankfully, the master director succeeds in his endeavour. The plot is crazy and David makes sure there are enough moments and madcap characters to keep the interest going. Moreover, the songs are well-mounted, adding to the impact.

On the flipside, the humour doesn't land as intended in the first half. In fact, hardly any joke works in the first 20 minutes. Even in the second half, there are moments where the interest drops. Some scenes also evoke a sense of déjà vu, resembling similar films in this genre, such as GARAM MASALA, SAAJAN CHALE SASURAL, MAIN TERA HERO and many others. Lastly, there was a lot of scope for madness in the climax, but things end too conveniently.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Movie Review Performances:
Varun Dhawan goes a bit over the top in a few scenes. But overall, he puts up a very entertaining and massy act. He looks quite dashing, which his fans will appreciate. Mrunal Thakur delivers a wonderful performance and the same applies to Pooja Hegde. Both have been presented in a glamorous avatar by David Dhawan. Maniesh Paul (Kunnu) has done far funnier roles; nevertheless, he adds to the laughter quotient. Jimmy Shergill (Jogi Randhawa) and Rajesh Kumar (Ghuggi) are dependable. Rakesh Bedi (Selfie Kumar) and Chunky Panday (Dr Gulati) have limited screen time and are too good. Mouni Roy (Rasamalai) is the surprise of the film. Ayesha Raza (Jass's mother) is wasted. Manoj Pahwa (Shukla), Rajpal Yadav (Mishra) and Johny Lever (Godbole) are there for a scene each and are lovely. Lastly, Kriti Sanon's cameo is impressive.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai movie music and other technical aspects:
All songs of the film - 'Wow', 'Tera Ho Jaun', 'Vyah Karwado Ji' and 'Chunari Chunari' - are peppy. However, 'Chunari Chunari' is the best and most exciting track. Raju Singh's background score does justice to the film's plot.

Ayananka Bose's cinematography adds to the film's appeal. Late Rajat Poddar and Parijat Poddar's production design is classy, while Aki Narula and Samidha Wangnoo's costumes are stylish and glamorous. Ritesh Soni's editing is razor sharp.

On the whole, HAI JAWANI TOH ISHQ HONA HAI is a breezy, buoyant and unapologetically mainstream entertainer that plays firmly to David Dhawan’s strengths: broad humour, colourful characters, musical energy and an instinctive understanding of what makes audiences smile. Though the first half has limited humour and offers little novelty in terms of overall storytelling, the film succeeds in its primary objective to make audiences laugh. At the box office, it should benefit from its family friendly appeal and stressbuster positioning to register a healthy theatrical run.

Hopes weren’t too high when I entered the theatre to watch Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, but I must admit, the film is much better than expected. It’s fun.

Directed by David Dhawan, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai stars Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in the lead. The film revolves around a man who finds himself in a situation when he discovers that both his wife and girlfriend are pregnant at the same time. What follows is a rollercoaster ride and entertainment.
To begin with, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is a typical David Dhawan movie. The director returns to his comfort zone with this film and the result is exactly what fans of his cinema would expect: a light-hearted entertainer packed with confusion, comedy and romance. The film does not attempt to reinvent the wheel, but it succeeds in delivering wholesome family entertainment.

The plot of the film is nothing extraordinary, nor does it offer anything great to the audience. But that is precisely where the film’s charm lies. It embraces its old-school  Bollywood roots without hesitation and focuses entirely on one thing: How to keep the audience entertained.

The first half of the film is terribly weak. The film struggles to find its footing in the initial hour. The makers make desperate attempts to make people laugh with dialogues which often sound cringeworthy rather than entertaining. However, several of these jokes just fail to land. The narrative feels stretched and the humour often comes across as forced, making portions of the opening act frustrating to sit through.

However, it is the second half of the movie that saves it. The film undergoes a noticeable transformation after the interval. The second half is significantly sharper, funnier and far more engaging. The comic situations become more organic, the characters click better and the jokes finally start working. This is where David Dhawan’s expertise shines, turning the film into an enjoyable laugh riot.

It should also be noted that David Dhawan has used several old songs in his movie. Luckily, it becomes one of the highlights of the film. Rather than feeling forced, the nostalgic tracks blend seamlessly with the film’s mood and enhance the entertainment factor.
As far as performances are concerned, Varun Dhawan once again proves why comedy remains his strongest genre. The actor appears completely at ease and delivers a performance full of energy and charm. His comic timing is impeccable and many of his scenes emerge as the film’s biggest crowd-pleasers.

His chemistry with Maniesh Paul is worth mentioning. The two are fun to watch. Their banter and comic exchanges may also remind audiences of the duo’s camaraderie in their 2022 movie Jug Jugg Jeeyo.

On the other hand, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde provide strong support and ensure that the film’s romantic track remains engaging. Both actresses bring confidence and charisma to their roles. They complement Varun’s energetic performance effectively.

The supporting cast of the film also deserves appreciation. Together, they significantly strengthen the film. Chunky Pandey, Rakesh Bedi, Mouni Roy, and Jimmy Shergill make valuable contributions and add depth to the chaotic proceedings. Their performances help maintain the film’s momentum, especially during its stronger second half.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai also introduces several cameos and all of them are entertaining to watch.

Overall, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is not a groundbreaking comedy, nor does it attempt to be one. It sticks to the familiar David Dhawan playbook and delivers exactly what it promises, an entertaining theatrical experience filled with laughs, romance, confusion and nostalgia. The film is a satisfying watch for fans of commercial Bollywood entertainers.

#DavidDhawan has never chased novelty in storytelling... His strength lies in taking familiar ingredients – romance, comedy, confusion, misunderstandings, colourful characters, and chartbuster music – and packaging them into a thoroughly enjoyable entertainer.

#HJTIHH follows the same tried-and-tested template, and that's precisely where its charm lies... It is unabashedly entertaining, unapologetically commercial, and designed purely to make audiences smile.

The screenplay moves at a brisk pace, the humour lands consistently, and the film is peppered with crowd-pleasing moments... The witty one-liners, situational comedy, and larger-than-life treatment ensure that boredom never creeps in.

However, despite its concise runtime [2+ hours], #HJTIHH feels stretched during portions of the second half... The narrative stagnates momentarily instead of moving forward.

The makers have smartly integrated popular songs into the narrative, making the proceedings even more engaging and watchable.

#VarunDhawan should silence all those who doubted his suitability for this role... He has a flair for comedy and displays perfect comic timing, boundless energy, and tremendous confidence throughout.

#MrunalThakur and #PoojaHegde add glamour, charm, and confidence to the proceedings, complementing the narrative effectively.

The supporting cast is equally impressive... #JimmyShergill is wonderful... #MouniRoy spices up the proceedings... #RakeshBedi is superb yet again... #ChunkyPanday is hilarious, contributing to some genuinely funny moments... #ManieshPaul is in top form... #RajeshKumar is first-rate.

The film also features #JohnyLever, #RajpalYadav, #AliAsgar, #ManojPahwa, and #KubbraSait in brief but effective appearances.

⭐ Final word? #DavidDhawan once again proves that when it comes to delivering a full-fledged entertainer, very few do it better.
