Most of us have, as kids, bragged about our father’s strength, only to be one-upped by someone saying, “That’s nothing, my dad is so strong that…” Young Deepu does the same about his grandfather when his family relocates, and he joins a new school. Only, he takes it too far and says his Dadaji is a superhero on a mission to save Earth from an alien attack. While Deepu admits that he lied, unbeknownst to him, it is the truth and Jagdishchandra really is a superhero. As aliens are set to attack the planet, Deepu and his trusty buddy Laddu (Shivanssh Chourghe) urge Dadaji to rediscover his latent superpowers and take on the invaders. The catch is that Dadaji has aching bones and seems far too ordinary to pull this off.
Director Manish Saini’s sci-fi comedy keeps you in splits almost throughout, especially in a sharp first half where Deepu convinces his classmates that his grandfather is a superhero. There are some seriously funny bits, such as Laddu saying, “Yeh Gangadhar hi Shaktiman hai wala scene hai,” or giving Dadaji groceries for free. There’s also a hilarious boxing competition that Chanakya (Jihan Hodar) calls for between his national-level boxing champion grandfather (Sharat Saxena) and Deepu’s Dadaji. The match hilariously comes down to a running race.
At a snappy 112 minutes, the narrative’s brisk pace keeps you engaged throughout. The comedy amps up with the arrival of two aliens (Saharsh Shukla and Kumar Saurabh), dressed in pink printed kurta-pyjamas and wearing funky sunglasses, as though they are about to attend a grand, colourful wedding.
The film’s second half loses some momentum but remains entertaining. A few plot points feel unnecessary and forced, such as wheelchair-bound Chingy (Asmi Deo) insisting on joining the fight against the aliens. The movie also carries a message about growing more trees, preserving nature, and keeping Earth clean. Visually, it creates cool comic book-like scenes, especially the imaginary ones with Dadaji fighting aliens. The VFX, although inconsistent, fits the sci-fi adventure narrative.
Jackie Shroff shines as the pot-bellied superhero Dadaji, who has forgotten his superpowers. He shares a humorous yet warm chemistry with Mihir Godbole’s Deepu. Shivanssh Chourghe impresses with his comic timing and gets some of the funniest scenes in the film. Prateik Smita Patil as the alien villain is menacing, though his role could have benefited from longer screen time. Sharat Saxena, as the boxer, delivers a strong performance, especially in the scenes where he mocks Jagdishchandra. Saharsh Shukla and Kumar Saurabh are on point as the quirky aliens.
The Great Grand Superherois not just a kiddie film, but a wholesome family entertainer that adults will enjoy just as much, especially when watched with the family in a theatre.

For a film about aliens, superheroes and school kids with wildly active imaginations, The Great Grand Superhero has a surprisingly old-school heart. It is goofy, chaotic, sweet, occasionally messy, but most importantly, it remembers something Bollywood has almost forgotten lately: children deserve movies made for them too.

Directed by Manish Saini, The Great Grand Superhero – Aliens Ka Aagman follows an 11-year-old boy, Dipu (Mihir Godbole), who shifts to a new town and, in an attempt to impress his classmates, cooks up a rather unbelievable story: his grandfather (Jackie Shroff) is secretly a superhero preparing to stop an alien invasion.


What begins as a harmless childhood flex slowly snowballs into an adventure powered by fantasy, innocence and the kind of wild imagination adults unfortunately lose somewhere between EMI payments and existential crises. And amid all the cooked-up stories, two intriguing men (Saharsh Shukla and Kumar Saurabh) enter the scene in their shiny costumes, eventually bringing the children’s imagination to life.

Let’s get it straight, this is not a sleek Marvel-style spectacle trying to compete with global franchises or even a Krrish with a stylish flying suit. In fact, the film works best when it fully embraces its desi, slightly scrappy, comic-book energy. The aliens are dramatic, the situations are absurd and the kids are permanently in ‘mission mode’. Many may find the film even spoofy, but because of the honesty with which it is told,And then, Jackie Shroff enters the film, as the loving and ageing grandfather who may either save the world or make you look for his forgotten glasses. One of the film’s sweetest, funniest moments sees this grandchild-claimed fearless grandpa completely terrified of a lizard, thus instantly puncturing his superhero aura.

Jackie is clearly having fun here, and that makes watching him even more entertaining. There’s something incredibly endearing about seeing him play a grandfather-superhero instead of another brooding older man offering life lessons to the hero. He brings warmth, humour and just enough mystery to make the children - and honestly, even the audience- believe that maybe this man really fights aliens after dinner.The film also smartly taps into a very universal childhood memory: believing every outrageous story your grandparents told you. Whether it was ghosts, hidden treasures, secret powers or impossible adventures, grandparents have always been low-key master storytellers. The Great Grand Superhero builds its entire emotional core around that idea, and that’s where the film becomes more than just any chaotic kids’ entertainer.

The young cast deserves a solid shoutout because the film’s energy depends heavily on them selling the madness with complete sincerity. Mihir Godbole leads the film with earnestness and wide-eyed conviction, while Shivansh Chorge and Jihan Hodar, as his friends, bring wonderfully innocent playground energy to the adventure portions. Their chemistry feels natural, loud and delightfully unserious, especially in moments when they believe they are in the middle of a scary alien attack.

Prateik Smita Patil also leaves an impression as the alien figure at the centre of the chaos, bringing both intrigue and charm to the role instead of turning it into a generic sci-fi caricature. Bhagyashree Patwardhan’s powerful cameo and a ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ moment add to the inter-terrestrial drama, while Durgesh Kumar’s absurd character fits seamlessly into the film’s eccentric little universe.

What also helps is that the film doesn’t want to be educative, aspirational or even emotional. It simply wants to tell a fun story about kids, imagination, friendship and a very reluctant heroic grandfather. And in an industry currently obsessed with violence, dark universes and hyper-masculine saviours, this film arriving with aliens, childhood chaos and granddad energy genuinely feels refreshing.
Of course, the film is not flawless. Some portions feel stretched, despite its less-than-two-hour runtime. The tonal shifts can also get uneven, and adults looking for tightly constructed sci-fi may occasionally find themselves fidgeting with their phones. And that slight momentarily switch from alien invasion energy to the environment-saving mission can also disappoint many.

However, what The Great Grand Superhero ultimately gets right is its sense of wonder. It understands that children don’t always need perfection; sometimes they just need a story that lets them believe something magical could exist around them. Maybe in their school, maybe in their neighbourhood, maybe inside their own home. Or maybe in their dada ji. And this is how cinema creates magic.

There was once a time when children’s films occupied a special place in Bollywood. Family audiences would regularly visit theatres for movies specifically made for younger viewers. These were films filled with imagination, innocence, adventure, fantasy, and life lessons.

From stories about friendship and courage to magical worlds and emotional coming-of-age journeys, Hindi cinema once treated children’s entertainment as an important genre rather than a commercially risky niche. Today, however, these films have become increasingly rare. Perhaps that’s why The Great Grand Superhero feels particularly special.
The film follows Deepu, a young boy who has trouble making friends because his father gets transferred every few months. In an innocent attempt to befriend his new classmates, he tells them that his grandfather, Jagdish, is a superhero who protects the Earth from aliens. The young boys are immediately fascinated, especially the sweet Ladoo, but soon begin to question this fantastical tale.

Deepu then convinces Jagdish to lie to his friends, and the grandson-grandfather duo make every attempt to make the old man pass for a superhero. However, what Deepu doesn’t know is that Jagdish is hiding a secret of his own. Their lives take a turn when ‘strange’ men show up in their charming town, claiming that an alien race is about to attack the Earth.

The story is simple, innocent and comfortable. This is the film’s biggest win. Director Manish Saini’s The Great Grand Superhero is a commendable attempt to revive the kids’ genre in Bollywood without dumbing down the narrative or making the story feel too juvenile. It lets children be children, with piqued curiosities and imaginations.

This also reflects in the elementary yet humorous treatment of dialogues for both the kids and the adults in the film. Visually, the film maintains a cheerful, almost fairytale-like tone, which is a welcome change from the red-tinted violence that the younger audiences are growing accustomed to. The use of background score to complement the visuals is brilliant.

Mihir Godbole as Deepu mightily shoulders the film, and his chemistry with Jackie Shroff’s Jagdish is heartwarming. Shivanssh Chourghe as Ladoo anchors the film’s soul, while Jihan Hodar does well as the sceptical Chanakya. Interestingly, the young band of boys held very well alongside the veteran actor, even stealing the spotlight in most scenes.

Jackie Shroff, having proven his acting chops over the years, lets the young talent shine. The child actors get most of the quirky dialogues, and their interactions are delightful. Manish Saini’s directorial prowess is on full display as he brings the children’s innocence on screen and still makes it a fun watch for even the adults in the theatre.

Bhagyashree’s cameo is an ‘aha’ moment for the adults, and the cheeky references to real-life events aren’t lost either. One may point out certain loopholes in the narrative, but one should not. Having said that, Jackie Shroff and villain Prateik Smita Patil’s fight sequence during the climax could have been more impactful.

Overall, the film is a victory for director Manish Saini, and a lovely way for Jackie Shroff to introduce himself to younger audiences; especially given that he plays a toned-down, swagger-less version of himself. The Great Grand Superhero is a sincere film that should be supported in theatres. Perhaps a real-life 11-year-old may not appreciate this simplicity given the recent run of films. It then falls on us as adults to help them nurture their innocence, just like Deepu and his friends.

The biggest strength of the film is its attempt to present a fresh and emotionally-rooted story. There’s a particularly impactful scene that subtly highlights how loud action entertainers often attract more eyeballs than simple, heartfelt stories driven by emotions.

The film’s animated storytelling style, blended with human emotions, works effectively for both children and adults. While the narrative is fictional, it beautifully conveys several important underlying messages about self-belief, friendship, preserving nature, and emotional connection.

Visually too, the film creates a soothing atmosphere with its scenic landscape filled with lush greenery, lakes, and vibrant flowers, adding a calm and serene charm to the storytelling. The VFX, meanwhile, is fairly decent and complements the fantasy world well.
Jackie Shroff is affable, warm, and effortlessly heroic as the grandfather. He brings emotional depth and charm to the role, making his presence one of the film’s biggest highlights.

Pratiek Smita Patil lends able support as the antagonist and fits well into the narrative.

Mihir Godbole, as Deepu, delivers a confident performance and shoulders the film with sincerity.
