After much talk and hype the keenly awaited film SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME finally hits screens this week. But with the film which promises to kick start the next phase of the MCU enthrall the audience is the question.
SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME starts off with Spider-Man's identity now revealed, our friendly neighborhood web-slinger is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life as Peter Parker from the high stakes of being a superhero. When Peter asks for help from Doctor Strange, the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man. Will Peter Parker survive the impending fight or will he be remembered as another one fallen is what makes up the rest of the film.

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME lives up to expectations. With an engaging first half and a rapidly progressing second, the film keeps the viewer in his seat. Over the past couple of weeks, the media and fans have been in a frenzy talking about what to expect from the film, but SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME still manages to surprise you. It’ll be wrong to give out any plot point and hence it can simply be said that in the second half, the fans will be in for a treat. The goings-on are also unique and never before seen in a Marvel film or any other movie for that matter. The climax and the mid and post credit scenes also add to the fun and drama and make you excitedly wait for the future Marvel films.

Director Jon Watts has done a commendable job in retaining the humour, feel and sentiment from the previous MCU films. With plenty of action well interspersed with humourous breaks at key points keep the on screen proceedings light, edgy and gripping.

Speaking of performances, there are plenty of people to name, but keeping it just to the key individuals, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Marisa Tomei have excelled in their given roles. A special mention for Holland who has done a fabulous job to depict the inner turmoil his character faces and has to endure. On the other hand, Jon Favreau seems to be terribly under utilized. Despite being a brilliant actor, Favreau seems to be relegated to a side role that helps with comic relief and being a scapegoat. Jacob Batalon as Ned does a commendable job as Peter Parker's best friend and comic interlude.
In terms of music, Michael Giacchino has done well to lend the visuals gravitas that keeps viewers glued. The CGI and VFX work are top notch and flawlessly executed making for a seamless visual spectacle. The dialogues deserve a special mention. The one liners are witty and funny and a few of them would be greeted with claps and whistles.

On the whole, SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME is definitely a must watch. From a superhero for kids to leading the next phase of the MCU, Spider-Man had certainly come a long way. At the Indian box office, the tremendous hype and historic advance sales will result in possibly the biggest opening of the year and also a healthy lifetime. Hence, it won’t be wrong to say that it has BLOCKBUSTER written all over it!

Swinging right back to the moment that changed Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) life in ‘Far From Home’ (2019), ‘No Way Home’ shows us why Peter’s secret is crucial. Not just to him but also to his friends and loved ones. Peter approaches Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to change things back to the way they were before. But as the sorcerer uses his powers to make the world forget Spider-Man’s identity, Peter gets a lot more than he bargained for.
Technically this isn’t Spider-Man’s first foray into the multiverse. We’ve seen this before, with stunning results in ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ (2018). Yet, no number of leaks or spoilers can ruin how ‘No Way Home’ plays out. The third Spider-Man film in the MCU isn’t afraid to step away from the visually spectacular action to develop emotional beats. This happens even during massive set pieces, and director Jon Watts uses them to focus on heavier or lighter themes in equal measure as the situation demands. Even if this comes at the cost of the film’s runtime, it works more often than not. While a couple of No Way Home’s sections may overstay their welcome, they will be generally well-received.
That’s where credit goes to the ensemble cast, both familiar and new to this universe. Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe return to reinforce why Otto Octavius and Norman Osborn are considered amongst the most heartfelt yet menacing antagonists, not just in Spider-Man films but across the superhero genre. The bold and ambitious screenplay also redeems Jamie Foxx’s Max Dillon/ Electro. But Tom Holland’s Peter Parker faces his biggest and darkest challenges in this film, and the actor fully embraces it. Holland simultaneously elevates the rest of the cast while managing to stand out on his own.
Although it’s easy to follow the film independently, knowledge of the previous Spider-Man films only enriches this sweeping experience. ‘No Way Home’ is undoubtedly the most crowd-pleasing Spider-Man film of all time. This celebration of your friendly neighbourhood Avenger solidifies the web-slinger as the most beloved Marvel superhero.

Disclaimer: This is a NO-SPOILER review. Yes, I don’t want to spoil the fun or make you feel like this is a buzzkill for the newest Spider-Man movie. There are some things that we need to get out of the way before we discuss the latest in the series of Spider-Man films. Well, this seems to be just the tip of the iceberg in Marvel's attempt to play around with its universe/multiverse concept. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a true testament to what Stan Lee envisioned and is perhaps the strongest of all the Spider-Man movies in terms of what the superhero stands for - with great power comes great responsibility.
This time around, his power lies in the ability to not just swing around cascading sky-high towers but also to heal, love, forgive and perhaps, even repent. Spider-Man aka Peter Parker shares a glimpse into not just his mind but his heart and the values he holds close to himself.

Spider-Man: No Way Home begins almost in a bubble gum haze of teen-spirited romance between him (Tom Holland) and MJ (Zendaya). But just when you think the setting is light and the jokes are funny, the atmosphere turns grim and dark. Dr Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) stirs up a cauldron that wreaks havoc in Spider-Man’s life, causing him to make some decisions that alter his life forever.
The strongest asset of the film is the mind-boggling VFX, which absolutely is the best you will experience in 3D! The human interest in the plotline between the key characters is quite something. Spider-Man’s unconditional love for Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), his camaraderie with Ned (Jacob Batalon) and his love for MJ are emotions that are beautifully brought alive on screen. It is truly Spider-Man’s universe and we are just mere spectators, who are in awe of what he can do!
Every actor's performance is top-notch. It won’t be a lie if I say that Tom Holland might be the best Spider-Man ever (Tobey Maguire fans, my apologies!). There is so much simplicity and honesty in what Tom does that you can’t help but fall in love with him. It goes beyond his age and stature. His Spider-Man is all heart and yes, he’s also extremely vulnerable and embodies that human trait with grace. Zendaya is an absolute delight as MJ and her chemistry with Tom is just so natural. Benedict Cumberbatch puts up a class act and he is one the biggest reasons why you will be applauding and cheering during the big scenes.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, in my opinion, is the best Spider-Man movie of all and one can only anticipate where this multiverse goes in the coming years.

With great power comes great responsibility, is the motto Peter Parker aka Spider-Man has lived by. But great power also has great consequences, and if this third instalment in the Spider-Man franchise was when you were hoping Tom Holland would grow up to that realisation, you are in for a disappointment. Yes, No Way Home is all that you have been hearing and talking about. Yes, it gives you bangs to the power of three for your buck. Yes, it is gratifying to indulge in your favourite Spider-Men films of the recent past once more. And yes, Holland’s Peter remains as likable and eager as ever.
But when the dust settles on this metaverse of multiple villains and many heroes, which Cumberbatch’s Dr Strange conjures out of some very furiously moving hands and not seemingly as engaged thoughts, it’s unclear what all that was about.
The film starts with Peter’s identity revealed to the world, and what follows in a world of mobile phones, paparazzi and The Daily Bugle – both fame and ignominy. One fallout is the rejection by MIT of not just Peter’s college application but also of friends MJ (a charming Zendaya) and Ned (a winsome Batalon). It’s this that ultimately drives Peter to ask Dr Strange to turn the clock back to the time before his identity was revealed or, if not that, to make people forget who he was.

Something goes wrong, and it must when Dr Strange keeps plucking strings of light out in the midst of a world-altering spell, at Peter’s confused bidding. Out tumble the villains Spider-Man has fought before, Dr Octopus (Alfred Molina), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Electro (Jamie Foxx) Sandman and the Lizard.
So far, so good. However, it is about here that the plot, already into the tricky territory of multiple universes, gets a little wobbly. Superheroes nowadays can’t just have fun and beat the bad guys. There has to be a larger purpose to their gift. What Peter chooses at this point is set to have consequences that he doesn’t really think through – or the film even lets him face.
By themselves, the creatures who step out of the parallel universes into ours are a lot more fun. Molina has the meatiest screen presence and gets his own delectable fight on a bridge, complete with dangling cars and swinging men and women. Dafoe largely snarls and gnarls, but when they do get together, the actors who personify two of the greatest Super-Men villains, remain vile but now are also much funnier.

The same is true of two other creatures who step in through a portal into our universe. The shrieks with which the cinema audience greets them say all about how much they have been missed despite the years in the middle. Holland, whose Spider-Man has always been just one of the many Avengers, holds up well when called to be one of a team. The dialogue is witty and funny, Holland, Zendaya and Batalon are believable as kids who find themselves often out of their depth, the battles are coherently staged, a mirror dimension of the world that Dr Strange builds in one such clash is just wow, Spider-Man is satisfyingly nerdy (“What’s cooler than magic? Math”), and the past is adroitly linked with the present.
However, what it says of the future is what you may be left wondering. Like power and responsibility, No Way Home is a big one for “everyone deserving second chances”. But, chances are, most of us will still remain Peter Parker than Spider-Man. Is the film ready for that?

If you are unconditionally into superhero movies and instinctively get into the swing of things as Spider-Man slings his way around, there is no way you cannot relate to the action-packed and emotionally engaging concluding instalment of Jon Watts' Spider-Man trilogy. Spider-Man: No Way Home is never at a loss for what works.

However, even if your acquaintance with the world of the web-slinger and his ilk is only casual, Spider-Man: No Way Home, scripted by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, is an experience to savour, especially if you are watching it in the company of cheering, exulting and howling fans responding to every surprise and every sleight that the film has in store for the audience.

Humour, heart, history and heft are harmoniously blended together to drive Spider-Man: No Way Home towards the goal that it has set for itself: to be the most complete and most thoroughly entertaining superhero film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It gets home with an effort to spare. It has two post-credits sequences that promise further forays into the multiverse. If this is anything of a long-term yardstick, we will look forward to what lies ahead.

Spider-Man: No Way Home begins where the previous instalment ended. The shield of anonymity around Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) web-slinging adventures are torn off. He is blamed for the death of Mysterio. The whole world is now in the know of who Spider-Man is.

With Spider-Man's secret identity outed, New York City and the world, egged on by shrill newscasts on The Daily Bugle, goes into a tizzy and the population is sharply divided between supporters and haters. The people closest to him - his aunt May (Marisa Tomei), classmate and girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best pal Ned (Jack Batalon) - are the worst affected by the turn of events. They are charged with aiding and abating Peter's chaos-generating vigilantism.

In desperation, Peter requests his Avengers ally Dr Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to cast a magic spell that will make people forget Spider-Man's antecedents. Dr Strange's agrees to help him out but their plan does not go the way it is intended to. The spell aimed at restoring Spider-Man's 'secret', breaks open the multiverse, bringing five supervillains back into the present universe from all the other universes in which Spider-Man fought and vanquished them.

This isn't only about a 17-year-old boy hoping to be accepted into the college of his dream along with his two best friends. It is, more importantly, about a kid learning the hard way to shoulder the responsibility of being a defender of all that is positive in this world. He deals with anguish and confusion as the revelation of his identity wreaks havoc all around him. But even with his options drying up quickly, Peter must continue to fight for what he stands for. The dangers inherent in that course of action are grave and he carries on regardless.
The bursts of jaw-dropping, VFX-driven action sequences are punctuated with ruminative moments that are utilized for the development of the characters so that each of them has a rounded feel. Aunt May, referring to one of the scientists from another universe who has strayed into hers, says: He is lost, but not in the cosmos but in his head. Yes, that is where Spider-Man: No Way Home is at its best. It explores the notions of a multiverse and alternate realities, taking the aid of all the flights of fancy that the exercise entails. Happily, the film never loses touch with its soul.

Loss, grief, erasure of memory, remembrance and the purpose of heroism - a moral mission opposed to a pursuit of power - are delved into without slowing down the pace of the movie. Spider-Man is determined to give the antagonists a second shot at deliverance while Dr Strange advocates that they be sent back where they have come from and be allowed to meet their fates. Peter wants to cure them before sending them back to their respective universes.

The young Peter's ingrained sense of altruism - his dying uncle Ben Parker had in an earlier film asserted, "with great power comes great responsibility", a line repeated in this film in similarly tragic circumstances - becomes his undoing as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe, reprising the role he played in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy) takes advantage of it. He turns against the superhero and prevents his bid to help the other villains rid themselves of their evil strains.

Marvel superhero films have lately seen Peter drift away from his origins. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, as in the previous two films of the trilogy (Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far from Home), he returns to the principles that made him a crusader against evil in the first place. It is an event-filled journey home that makes the two-and-a-half-hour film consistently exhilarating.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Willem Dafoe frequently threaten to run away with the film and leave the actor playing the protagonist a bit in the shade. It is to Tom Holland's credit that he holds his ground with unwavering intent, articulating the inner turmoil of an ordinary teenager endowed with a gift but faced with the prospect of having it all snatched away. The competition is no less fierce from Zendaya, who carves out a young woman of substance and complexity in a truly memorable star turn.

The film springs a steady string of surprises (not the least of which pertains to the character of Peter Parker himself) that will only be considerably lessened if divulged in a review. Suffice it to say, Spider-Man: No Way Home is a terrific ride up a highway dotted with delights and landmarks, both expected and unexpected.
The fantastic and the funny, the wild and the witty, and the nostalgic and the new intermingle felicitously in Spider-Man: No Way Home to deliver a movie that is an out-and-out blockbuster and yet feels warm and intimate - not an ordinary feat.

She was also a part of the California Shakespeare Theater and studied at the CalShakes Conservatory Program and at the American Conservatory Theater. Her debut album as a singer put her on number 51 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2013.

Benedict Cumberbatch is an English actor who works in theater, films as well as TV. After volunteering as an English teacher at a monastery in West Bengal, Cumberbatch studied drama at Manchester University. He has received several nominations at the Oscars and the Golden Globe. His portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on the BBC series Sherlock earned him worldwide recognition and multiple awards. Some of his greatest movies include The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, 12 Years a Slave, Doctor Strange and The Imitation Game.
